Sofia: Great, looking forward to it!
Darius: Sofia, are you interested in joining the
neighborhood recycling program?
Sofia: Yes, I am. I was watching the news the other
day, and a reporter said people in our town
don’t recycle enough. I mentioned it in my
class, and they agreed. We need to do more
about recycling.
Darius: Yes, well, my neighbor Tomas told me about
the program, so I decided to help.
Sofia: That’s great. What does the program involve?
Darius: Well, there are different things to do. Some
people will go around the neighborhood
collecting things to recycle that are just
lying around, such as paper and plastic. I’ve
decided to help people recycle larger items,
like computers and TVs. Many people have
old ones in their homes that they don’t use,
and they don’t know how to get rid of them
properly. I think that’s a really big problem,
which is why I want to help with that. Another
thing to do is to hand out flyers to people or
put them in their mailboxes.
Sofia: Oh, that’s a very good idea. Well, I can help
you with your plan. I know a lot of people in
the area. My cousin’s family lives very close by,
so we can go there first. Then, we can visit my
friend Amanda’s house one block over. I know
she has some things to recycle. Next door to
Amanda’s is the Gomez family. I watch their
little girl sometimes when they want to go out,
so I know them well.
Darius: Great. We can also visit people we don’t know,
and then, we can get to know them better.
Sofia: Yes, I was thinking that as well. We can also
visit stores and businesses, local cafés and
restaurants, and schools. My brother works in
an office a few blocks away. There may be a lot
of things to recycle that we can help with.
Darius: I like that idea a lot. One thing I haven’t
figured out yet … how will we get all of these
things to the recycling plant? I don’t have
