4 Electrical installation of the Geamar 120 ISL

The electrical installation of the Geamar 120 ISL System includes the following
main parts:

Basic System Cable Installation

Sensor Input/Output Cable installation

4.1 Basic System Cable Installation

For lay out of cables and specific terminal connections, please refer to the
cable lay out drawings and installation drawings delivered for the vessel in
question.

The basic cable installation to and between the main components of the
Geamar 120 ISL System can be divided into "Power Supply" connections and
"Communication Cables" connections.

4.1.1 Power supply Connections

The main components of the Geamar 120 ISL are, as standard , to be supplied
from the following power sources, unless a different power source is specified
in the in the installation drawings, (please refer to the specific delivery extent
list also):

PMCS: 24 VDC +30-25% incl. ripple

Alarm Panel : 24 VDC +30-25% incl. ripple

Operator Workstation : 230 VAC? 0%, 50/60 Hz ? %

Printer: 230 VAC ? 0% , 50/60 Hz ? %

All main components of the Geamar 120 ISL System must be supplied
individually from separate main fuses in the ships power distribution board .
This prevents the function-loss of more than one main component in case that
a main f use blows .

There are no special requirements to the cable types to be used for the power
supply connections . The dimensions of the power supply cables must be
selected to have sufficient capacity to ensure that the voltage drop at the
cabinet terminals does not exceed 1 Volt. The cable dimensions in the cable
list is the recommended minimum dimension , e.g . minimum a 2 x 2. 5 m m
cable for the supply of each ZM 411 unit.

The safety and installation regulations must be observed during installation .

Note: The Operator Workstation(s) and the Printer(s) included in the actual
installation may be supplied from a 230 VAC UPS for uninterrupted operation
during blackouts.

4.1.1.1 24 VDC No-break Power Supply

A 24 VDC power supply with battery backup must be provided. The battery
must be adequately dimensioned to provide an emergency supply in the event
of mains failures of the approved duration. The classification society
regulations for the specific ship must be taken into consideration.

In the case of a grounded power supply, the negative terminal must be

connected centrally to ship's ground .

4.1.1.2 24 V Power Supply of Computer Modules

The 24 VDC power supply of all computer modules, e.g. ZM 411, SIM 401 and
system net adapter modules (SAM 411) are carried out via a power line filter
module FIM 405 mounted inside the PMCS. In case of voluminous systems, it
is possible to connect the modules in groups, each with it's own filter module.
The total load on each FIM 405 should not exceed the maximum allowed load
of this module.

All 24 V supply-connections outside the PMCS cabinets, which are connected

to the filtered internal 24 V power supply of a Computer module, must be
covered out via screened cables. Inside the screened cable it is not allowed to
combine with signals, which are supplied from an unfiltered 24 V supply.

4.1.1.3 24 V Supply of Binary Input/Output

The supply of binary input/output (18 ... 32 VDC I 18-220 VAC), e.g. the DEM
401, DRM 401, REM 401 or 10M 402 can be supplied with the unfiltered 24 V
power supply. But it is recommended to use always filtered 24 V power to
prevent noise interference by coupling of filtered and unfiltered signals .

Inputs with external supply can be connected in groups of fou r (4) input
channels at the time , which must have the same supply. The selection is mad e
by means of jumpers on the module.

4.1.1.4 24 V Supply of Analog Transducers

The supply of analog transducers (18 ... 32 VDC) , e.g. the AEM 402 , MXM 401
or MXM 402 must be supplied from the filtered 24 V power supply. In case of
many 4- 20 mA transducers, they might require a separate FIM 405 power line
filter module.

In case of 24 VDC supplied transducers, with a low mV output or operation with

sensor earth fault detection, it is recommended to use a VM 402 sensor supply
module with galvanically isolation of the 24 VDC supply, due to common mode
EMC disturbance on the input signal.

4.1.1.5 Power Consumption of Modules

The 24 Volt DC power consumption required by the Geamar 120 ISL modules
supplied from the ship's No Break Power Supply, is as listed in the following

4.2 Sensor Input/Output Cable installation

For recommendations regarding the general sensor allocation and connecti o n

to the PMCSs and to the Connection Boards within the PMCSs , please consul t
the "Geamar 120 ISL Technical System Description" for information regarding
alarm/event channel types , the function of average channels and cut out
channels etc.

The Connection Boards within the PMCS(s ) are individually labelled . Please
refer to the PMCS Lay out drawing for the specific vessel.

The channel definitions are made by means of the Customizing Tools Program
CT21 00, which will provide a detailed I/O-list containing all information
regarding the connection of each sensor to the Geamar 120 ISL System.

All sensor input/output cables are connected to the Geamar 120 I SL

connection boards (CB) through removable terminal plugs , enabling an easy
cable installation and cable test.

The I/O-list provided by the CT21 00 programm contains individual information

for each channel , including "PMCS Number" , "Connection Board (CB)
Number", "CB - Channel Number", "Sensor Type" , "Sensor Location/Name"
etc. Thus, the I/O-list provides all information necessary for the complete
sensor installation.

No signals from other systems may be transmitted in cables used for sensors ,
analogue outputs and periphera l devices belonging to Geamar 120 ISL.

A common cable may be used for alarm signals and for control functions .

Cables carrying signals such as 230 VAC should always be laid separately .

Sensors must not be grounded .

4.2.1 Combined Measuring Points

Sensors and transducers used for

averaging,
differential measurement,
exhaust gas temperature measuring systems (thermonitor) ,
dependent control functions

must be connected to the same ZM 411 unit.

4.2.2 Cable types

Signal cables with twisted pairs and a common screen must be used .

In case of more stringent requirements with regard to interference immunity,

the type of cable and the screening (e.g. separate screen for each pair) must
be stipulated separately.

4.2.3 Sensor Connection

4.2.3.1 Binary Inputs

Several different binary input modules are available:

OEM 401, Digital Input Module, with 32 input channels

REM 401, Relay and Input Module with 16 input and 8 output
channels

10M 402, Input and Output Module with 16 input and 12 output
channels

Inputs with opto-coupler galvanic isolation. Potential free contacts are normally
supplied with internal 24 VDC from the Geamar 120 ISL system. Inputs with
external supply are connected in groups of four (4) input channels at the time,
which must have the same supply. The selection is made by means of jumpers
on the input module.

4.2.3.2 Relay Outputs

The following relay output modules are available:

DRM 401, Digital Relay Module with 16 output channels

REM 401, Relay and Input Module with 8 output and 16 input
channels

NCINO potential free changeover contact with external power supply, max load
32 VDC I 6 Amp , 250 VAC I 1500 VA.

4.2.3.3 Supervised Binary Inputs

Binary inputs with supervision can be made in two different ways.

Either use an analog 4-20 mA input board with a 1.5 kOhm series resistor on
the cable connection, and a 1 .5 kOhm resistor in parallel with the contact. This
solution is used, if there are only a few sensors of this type. Please refer to the
drawing of 4-20 mA transducers for connection of this sensor (see drawing on
chapter: Thermocouple and Voltage Sensors).

The other possibility is to use the 10M 402 Digital Input and Output board,
which is specially made for this purpose, which can be used when many inputs
of this type are required. It requires a 8.2 kOhm resistor in parallel with the
contact. Please refer to the drawing of Binary Inputs for connection of this
sensor.

4.2.3.4 Supervised Solid State Outputs

10M 402, Input and Output Module with 12 solid state output and 16 input
channels .

Solid state output with external power supply, max load 24- 60 VDCNAC 3
Amp.

By means of a jumper it is possible to select if the load on the output is

supervised for cable break. The monitoring current is 2.4 rnA? 0% depending
on the supply voltage .

4.2.3.5 Resistance Measurements

The following analog modules can be used for resistance measurement:

MXM 402 , Analog Multiplexer Module with 16 analog input

channels for PT 100, PT 200 and 0 - 2 kOhm

AEM 402, Analog Input Module with 8 analog input channels,

(four only can be used for resistance measurement), for PT
1 00, PT 200 and 0 - 2 kOhm

The PT 100 and PT 200 sensors are connected with four-wires to compensate
for the cable length .

A potentiometer, e.g. for a valve position , can be connected with two wires ,
because it is not necessary to compensate for the cable length.

4.2.3.6 Thermocouple and Voltage Sensors

The following analog modules can be used for thermocouple and voltage
measurement:

AEM 402, Analog Input Module with 8 analog input channels

MXM 401, Analog Multiplexer Module with 32 analog input

channels

MXM 402, Analog Multiplexer Module with 16 analog input

channels

The thermocouplers must be connected via a distributor box by means of a

compensating lead of the same type as the sensor. APT 100 sensor must be
fitted in the distributor box for temperature compensation of the cold junction
point.

4.2.3.7 4 - 20 rnA Transducers

The following analog modules can be used for mA transducers:

AEM 402, Analog Input Module with 8 analog input channels

MXM 401 , Analog Multiplexer Module with 32 analog input

channels

MXM 402, Analog Multiplexer Module with 16 analog input

channels

Transducers with floating output must be provided with electrically isolated

power supply from the Geamar 120 ISL system (VM 402).

4.2.3.8 A nalo g O utputs

AAM 401 , Analog Output Module with 4 analog output channels is used . The
analog outputs can be connected as either 0/4 - 20 mA, max load 500 ohm
and/or as 0 - 10 VDC , max load 5 mA.

4.3 Guidelines for Suppression of Electromagnetic Interference

During the design of the Geamar 120 ISL System , big attention has been given
to the suppression and generation of electromagnetic noise.

When installing the Geamar 120 ISL System, the following information
regarding cable classes and recommended distances between cables should
be taken into consideration when planning the physical location of cables and
cable trays.

Please note the information in the cable and connection diagrams.

• Power and signal cables must be laid separately.

Signal cables should not be laid close to high voltages or high-

current devices.

The correct clearance between signal cables and cables

emitting interference must be observed . Please refer to table
1.

• Avoid excessive cable lengths.

4.3.1 Cable Classes and Distances between Cables

Cables can be grouped in five different interference classes, according to EMI

generation and EMI susceptibility. See table 1.

Normally all the different cable classes A to E should have separated routing ,
and the distance between them should be as large as practicable. The
minimum distances are given in table 2.

4.3.2 Signal Connection and Cabling

Input/Output signals and the power supply are divided into disturbance classes
and signal groups to avoid EMI-problems.

Signals R+/R- twisted pair, screened
Signal OV screened

The signals S+/S-, R+/R- and B can be screened separately,

but all signals must comprise in one cable.

4.3.3 Signal Combination in One Cable

The following rules must be observed in case of combining cables :

aspects of safety or classification rules in combining signals of

group A with any other group

signals of group A, B and C can be combined in one cable

without any additional measures

signals of group D can be combined in screened, twisted pair

cables. Related signals (like +/- signals of an analogue
sensors) must be used in twisted pairs and comprised in one
cable. Separate screens inside one cable must be used for:

- signals of group 07 (if there are more than one related

signal groups in one cable, the screening of all signal
groups with one screen is sufficient)

- signals of group 05 (if there are more than one related

signal groups in one cable, the screening of all signal
groups with one screen is sufficient)

signals of group D can be combined with signals of group B

and C1 in one cable . In this case the signals of group D must
be screened against group Band C1 .

These rules are containing the demand, that all inductive consumers, which

are supplied via a combined cable also includes signals of

group D

4.3.4 Combination of Cables in Cable trunks

Similar to the rules of chapter 4 .3.3 these are also to observed for combining
cables in Cable trunks within cabinets . Exceptions are allowed for very short
distances.

4.3.5 Grounding of Screened Cables

The cable screen has to be grounded at both ends of the cable by means of
conical cable entry glands in accordance with DIN 89280 and VG 88812
respectively. The Two Side Screen Connection is recommended because of
the very low transient current on a vessel. In other environments it could be
useful to connect only one side of the screen and at the sensor side leave the
cable screen disconnected.

On cabinets without cable entry glands, the screen must be connected to

screen bars provided for this purpose.

Attention! All connections of the screens has to be done on the cable entry of
the cabinet (conical cable entry glands or screen bars) to prevent a too high
noise (EM I) level emitted by the screens inside the cabinet ! The isolation of the
cable has to be removed carefully without hurting or cutting the screen . A HF
earthing strip also for short distances has to be used.

Beside the above instructions the screen of the Geamar 120 I SL

communication cables should be connected as indicated on the specific
installation drawings for the vessel.

Screened cables must be used for Geamar 120 ISL by means of e .g .:

binary inputs and outputs

analogue outputs

all analogue signals

all serial data transmissions, e.g.:

- operator panels

- printers

- serial interfaces

- RS-485 alarm-net connections from the master PMCS to

the other slave PMCS

4.3.5.1 Screened Cables on Operator Panels

An earth connection point is situated on the backside of the panels . This point
has to be used for the connection of the screens. A second earth connection
point is for the connection of the HF earthing stripe to the mounting plate. This
should be as short as possible.

4.3.5.2 HF Earthing Stripes

HF earthing stripes are made of coppermaid braided wire. Their length has to
be as short as possible. Several components has to be grounded via HF
earthing stripes to the vessels ground (please refer to the related drawings).

The following examples show some different ways of the stripes to the vessels
ground:
- cabinet door > cabinet > cabinet socket > ground
- panel cover > mounting plate > ground

4.3.6 Transient Suppression of Relays, Contacts etc.

Switched inductors, e.g . relay coils which are controlled from the digital relay
module DRM 401 of the Geamar 120 ISL System should be EMI suppressed
by the mounting of quenching diodes or Transzorb diodes across the relay
coils in the case of DC voltage. Varistors must be used in the case of AC
voltage.

4.4 Galvanic Isolation

4.4.1 Galvanic Isolation of Serial Interfaces

All serial interfaces have to be isolated to the vessels ground.

Some systems like the PCs are connected via the power supply plug to the
vessels ground. These units must be equipped with a galvanic isolatated
serial interface for connection to the SIM 401.
