The numbers of paragraphs in this Specification dealing with modifications to existing API requirements
refer to the corresponding paragraphs of API Spec 12K, 7th Edition. New paragraphs covering additional
requirements have been given the next higher paragraph number.
1. SCOPE
1.1 This specification and attached data sheet define the minimum requirements for the design,
fabrication, testing and inspection of Indirect Fired Heaters for the AL FURAT PETROLEUM
COMPANY. These heaters will be located within onshore production facilities and be used for
the heating of production fluids such as crude oil and associated gas.
Unless superseded by the requirements of this Specification, the design, materials, fabrication,
inspection and testing of the Indirect Fired Heater equipment shall be in accordance with the
latest edition of API Spec 12K and all publications referenced therein, except as modified in the
following.
1.8 In addition to API Spec 12K and this specification, the following COMPANY specifications shall
apply:
1.9 All deviations from these specifications, the RFQ or the data sheet shall have the written approval
of COMPANY.
2. TERMINOLOGY
2.24 A water saver (Expansion Tank) with integral fill and vent shall be provided in accordance with
this paragraph.
3. MATERIALS
3.0 Pressure retaining components shall meet the requirements of NACE Standard MR-01-75 unless
specifically stated otherwise in the RFQ.
3.1 Materials for indirect heater coils, including the fuel gas preheat coil if used, shall be seamless
pipe conforming to ASTM A 106 Grade B.
3.2 All connections shall be flanged, minimum 2" Schedule 80. Flanges shall conform to ANSI/ASME
B16.5 and COMPANY's specification for Pipe, Valves and Fittings (Schedule Q). Material shall
conform to ASTM A105. Clamp type connectors shall not be used.
3.3 Fittings such as return bends, ells, tees, etc., shall conform to ASTM A234 Grade WPB.
4. DESIGN
4.1.2 The maximum design temperature rating shall be as specified on the data sheet or in the
RFQ.
4.1.3.3. Socket-welded or threaded fittings shall not be used in any process service.
4.2 Shell Design - (Rephrase the first sentence as follows) "The minimum requirements for indirect
heater shells shall be in accordance with the data sheets or the RFQ and the following:"
4.7 Pressure relief for the shell shall be provided and sized for full tube/coil rupture.
4.8 Burners shall normally be designed for natural draft and shall be capable of burning all fuel
specified. Burner designs shall have been commercially proven in a comparable service. Forced
draft shall be used only when specified by COMPANY.
4.9 All external, on-skid piping and fittings shall conform to COMPANY's specification for Pipe, Valves
and Fittings (Schedule Q).
4.10 The heater shell, fire box and stack shall be provided with thermal insulation heat conservation as
required per COMPANY's specification for Heat Insulation (Schedule J).
4.11 The heater and all associated instrumentation and appurtenances shall be suitable and certified
for installation in a classified area as indicated in the RFQ or on the data sheet.
5. FABRICATION
5.4 Painting - Before shipment, heaters shall be mechanically cleaned of rust, grease, loose scale,
and weld spatter, and the outside of the shell coated in accordance with COMPANY's
Specification for Paint Systems, Schedule V-9.
6. MARKING
6.2 The shell nameplate shall furthermore bear COMPANY's equipment tag number.
6.3 The coil nameplate shall furthermore bear COMPANY's equipment tag number.
Completed API heat exchanger data sheet. Note: Data Sheet shall be in SI units.
Proposal drawing showing all major dimensions in plan and elevation, general nozzle location/
orientation and maintenance clearance requirements for tube bundle removal etc..
A guarantee of thermal performance.
Time required to compete fabrication of the exchanger after receipt of "Review Drawings".
Name, address, phone and fax number of the actual sub-contracted fabricator if
CONTRACTOR does not physically build the exchanger.
A list of deviations from this specification and all other applicable Codes, Standards and
Specifications.
CONTRACTOR shall supply three (3) prints of flow diagrams and construction drawings to
COMPANY for review before beginning fabrication of the exchanger. CONTRACTOR shall also
supply three (3) copies of data sheets for exchangers' instruments for COMPANY's review.
COMPANY's review and/or approval of these documents shall not be considered as approval to
deviate from the requirements of this specification unless those deviations are specifically
approved in writing by COMPANY.
CONTRACTOR shall deliver three (3) data books to COMPANY on or before delivery of the
equipment. The data books shall include the following data:
Shop drawings showing "As-Built" dimensions for the location of all openings for pipe
connections, manway nozzles, nameplate(s) and internal connections.
Record (chart) of hydrostatic test.
Radiography-grader sheets.
Mill test reports (all pressure- retaining plate and pipe).
Certificates of Compliance for all pressure retaining fittings.
As-built data sheets (in SI units)
Final thermal calculations
CONTRACTOR shall also supply one (1) set of all construction drawings on diskettes in AutoCad.
The data shall include all those required for future ordering of replacement tube bundles by
COMPANY. Submission of these documents only as hardcopies requires specific COMPANY
approval.
9.1 All unpainted finished surfaces shall be coated with a suitable rust preventive and all flanged
openings properly protected by suitable metal, plastic, or wood covers. Threaded openings, other
than telltale holes in nozzle reinforcing pads and saddles, shall be protected with steel plugs
screwed in.
9.2 Suitable supports shall be provided for internal parts which might become damaged during
shipment. If removal of these supports is required prior to putting vessel into service, the
COMPANY will be notified in writing with a drawing showing supports to be removed.
9.3 Any items shipped loose shall be tagged and crated. The crate shall be tagged with vessel tag
number and purchase order number. Shipping papers shall include a complete list of items
