In a poem, the poet sometimes uses words or something that is

A Night of Colors
We stand together 1 in the cold, black night,
The sky is dark and far away 2 .
Everything is quiet and still 3 , until – BANG!
The lights make the sky as bright 4 as day.

Rockets shoot up 5 into the air,

We shout 6 and cheer 7 , watching them fly.
Colors burn brilliantly 8 against the black,
We see them dance happily through the sky.

The sound fills 9 my ears, as each rocket

takes off 10, Exploding noisily with flashes of
light. Beads 11 of red, yellow, silver, and gold,
Are beautiful jewels 12 in the black night.
With blasts 13 so loud and rockets up high,
A colorful fire against the stars.
The sky shines brightly 14 with light and color,
We hold our breath 15, looking out far.

Tall Tree and the Eye is a famous sculpture 5 by
Anish Kapoor. It stands outside the Guggenheim
Museum in Bilbao, Spain. This sculpture is
about 13 meters tall. It is made of 73 stainless
steel balls, or spheres 6 . Stainless steel is very
shiny 7 , so when you look at Tall Tree and the Eye, you ‫ منحوتة‬- ‫تمثال‬ 5

stay in place for a long time. For example, in Tall Tree and
the Eye, Kapoor uses stainless steel because it is a very strong material.
It’s very good for outdoor sculptures because it stays shiny, and bad
weather doesn’t damage 10 it. Over the years, Kapoor has made many
other famous sculptures. Another famous Kapoor sculpture is Cloud
Gate. You can see it in Chicago, USA. Cloud Gate is very high – people
can even walk under it! It is also made of stainless steel, which reflects 11
the sky, the buildings, and the people around it, like a huge mirror. It is a
very popular sight 12 to visit in Chicago.

teacher showed us how to use a pottery wheel. Then it was our turn. I
put on an apron over my clothes and started my pottery object. It was
a bowl. I painted it pink all over first, and waited for the paint to dry.
Then I used different colors of paint to make circles all over it. When
my bowl was finished, the teacher put it in a kiln. This is a special oven
which gets very hot. It makes the clay hard and strong. I really enjoyed
making my bowl! When I finished, I gave it to my mom for her birthday.
She loved it and said, “Thanks, Amal.”

Behind the camera

It was two weeks until the school show 1 , and everybody was
excited. Everybody except 2 Magdy. “I’m going to play the piano,”
said Waleed. “The choir 3 is going to sing beautiful songs,” said Nesma.
“And I’m going to make costumes 4 for the
choir,” said Dalia. “I’ve written a funny play 5
!” said Samir.
Magdy was worried. He didn’t go to piano
lessons, and he didn’t like singing. “What am
I going to do?” he thought. On the way home,
Magdy walked past 6 the museum. There
was an advertisement for a photography
exhibition 7 . A black and white photo showed
a man playing the piano on stage, with the audience 8 in the shadow.
“That’s amazing,” thought Magdy. It felt like he was there, listening to
the music. At home, Magdy started looking in cupboards. “What are you
doing?” asked Mom. “Dad has a good camera, doesn’t he? Do you know
where it is?” asked Magdy. “Yes,” said Mom, taking a box from a shelf
9 . “He hasn’t used it for a long time. Are you studying photography at

school?” “No, but I’ll learn!” Magdy said. ‫ عرض مدرسي‬1

“Well done, Magdy. That’s a great idea!” The class practiced 12 their

were happy and ready to perform 13. When each person was on stage,
Magdy took photos. Magdy’s photos were on the school website the
next week. “You’re going to be a great photographer 14, Magdy,” said
