Termiseal Service Pre-Construction

AS PER IS :6313 Part (II)-2013
1.General :
The treatment shall create a chemical barrier /Zone and around the building during the
construction .
2.Chemicals :
Any one of the following chemicals which are effective when applied uniformly over the area to be
treated – shall be used in water emulsion for the soil treatment with the concentration shown against it.

Chemical Relevant Indian Concentration by weight, Dosage

Standard percent
Chlorpyriphos IS :8944-1978 1.0 250 ml in 5 litre water
Imidacloprid IS :16131 0.075 10.5 ml in 5 litre water
3. Treatment :
The principle of the treatment is to create a continuous chemical barrier/Zone below and around the
building treatment is designed depending on the type of building is described below:
3.1.Treatment for masonry foundations and basement :

3.1.1 The bottom surface and the side (up to a height of 300mm) of the excavation made for
masonry foundation and basement shall be treated with the chemical emulsion at the rate of t 5
liters per square meter surface area
3.1.2 After the masonry foundations and the retaining wall of the basements come up, the
backfillin immediate contact with the foundation structure shall be treated at the rate of 7.5 liters
per square meter of the vertical surface of the sub-structure for each side. The earth is usually
returned in layer and the treatment shall be carried out in similar stages .The chemical emulsion
shall be directed towards the masonry surface so that the earth in contact with these surface is well
treated with the chemical . Followed by below stages 3.2.2. to 3.2.6.
.
3.2 Treatment of RCC Foundation ( Buildings without basement ):
3.2.1 In case of reinforced cement concrete(RCC) foundation, the treatment shall start at a
depth of 500 mm below the ground level except when such ground level is raised or lowered by
filling or cutting after the foundation have been cast. In such cases, the depth of 500 mm shall be
determined from the new soil level resulting from the filling or cutting mentioned above, and soil
in immediate contact with the vertical surface of RCC. Foundation shall be treated at the rate of 7.5
liters per sq m.
3.2.2Treatment of top surface of plinth filling :
The top surface of the consolidated earth within plinth wall shall be treated with chemical
emulsion at the rate of 5 liters per square meter of the surface before the sand-bed or sub
-grade is laid. If the filled earth has been well rammed and surface does not allow the
emulsion to seep through, holes up 50 to 75 mm deep at 150 mm centers both ways may
be made with 12 mm diameter mild steel rod on the surface to When pipes, wastes and
conduits enter the soil inside the area of the foundation, the soil with the chemical emulsion.

3.2.3Treatment at junction of the Wall and the floor::

Special care shall be taken to establish continuity of the vertical chemical barrier /zone of inner
wall surface from ground level up to the level of filled earth surface .To achieve this a small
channel 30 mm x 30 mm shall be made at the junction of wall and columns with the floor (before
laying the sub-grade) and rod holes made in the channel up to the ground level 150 mm apart and
the rod moved backward and forward to break up the earth and chemical emulsion poured along
the channel at the rate of 7.5 liters per square meter of the vertical wall or column surface so as to
soak the soil right to the bottom. The soil should be tamped back into place after this operation.

3.2.4 Treatment of Soil along External Perimeter of Building

After the building is complete , the earth along the external perimeter of the building should be
rodded at intervals of 150 mm and to a depth of 300 mm .The rods should be moved backward
and forward , parallel to the wall to break up the earth and emulsion poured along the wall at the
rate of 7.5 liter per square meter of vertical surfaces. After the treatment , the earth should be
tamped back into place . Should the earth outside the building be graded on completion of
building , this treatment should be carried out on the completion of such grading .In the event of
filling more than 300 mm , the external perimeter treatment shall extend to the full depth of filling
up to the ground level so as to ensure continuity of the chemical barrier /Zone.

3.2.5 Treatment of Soil Surrounding Pipes ,Wastes and Conduits :

When pipes, wastes and conduits enter the soil inside the area of the foundation ,soil surrounding
the point of entry shall be loosened around each of such pipe, waste or conduits for a distance of
150 mm and up to a depth of 75 mm before the treatment is commenced. When they enter the soil
external to the foundation , they shall be similarly treatment for a distance of 300 mm, unless they
stand clear of the walls of the building by about 75 mm.
3.2.6 Treatment for Expansion Joints :
Expansion joints at ground floor level are one of the biggest hazards for termite infestation. The
soil beneath these joints should receive special attention when the treatment under 3.3 is carried
out .This treatment should be supplemented by treating through the expansion joint after the sub –
grade has been laid , at the rate of 2 liters per linear meter .
3.3 Treatment to RCC Basement Buildings
The treatment starts after the excavation fro basemen is complete and before laying soling and
plain cement concrete (PCC). Th treatment shall be carried out in the following stages.
3.3.1 Treatment to soil below raft
Before laying the rubble soling and PCC, the compact and levelled soil shall be treated at 5 litres
per sq m.
3.3.2 Treatment to soil along the retaining wall
The soil retained by the walls (soil coming in contact with retaining wall) shall be treated at the
rate of 7.5 liter per sq m of the vertical surface so as to effect a continuous outer chemical barier,
in continuation with that of the one formed under 3.3.1. The treatment shall follow the backfilling
as backfiling is done in stages of 300 mm but not to exceed a depth of 1 m. Rodding may be
carried out to facilitate the treament.
3.3.3 Treatment of soil along external perimeter of building

3.3.4 Treatment of Soil Surrounding Pipes ,Wastes and Conduits :

When pipes, wastes and conduits enter the soil inside the area of the foundation ,soil surrounding the
point of entry shall be loosened around each of such pipe, waste or conduits for a distance of 150 mm
and up to a depth of 75 mm before the treatment is commenced. When they enter the soil external to
the foundation , they shall be similarly treatment for a distance of 300 mm, unless they stand clear of
the walls of the building by about 75 mm.

 The removal of trees , stumps, logs or roots from a building site reduce the hazards from the
subterranean termites . Area of treatment shall be kept free from all debris.
 Treatment should not be carried out when it is raining or when the soil is saturated with sub-soil
water .The chemical shall be applied to soil when the soil is dry and absorbent .Immediate
steps to be taken by the customer to cover the treated layer by laying soiling /PCC etc.
 Once formed treated soil barriers zone must not be disturbed. In case treated soil is disturbed ,
immediately steps shall be taken to restore the continuity and completeness of barrier system at
an additional cost to the customer.
