PLAGARISM
Plagiarism is the failure to acknowledge an author/s ideas and words. These ideas may be
written, spoken or located electronically and includes copying and pasting information
from the internet. This includes a student copying work from another student, with or
without the other student’s permission.

Consequences of Plagiarism
After investigation by a teacher and based upon significant evidence that plagiarism has
occurred or that a student has assisted in that plagiarism, the appropriate Head of
Department, Deputy Principal or Principal will be notified. Contact may be made home to
inform parents/guardians of the plagiarised assessment pieces. Consequences for
students may include:
 A verbal warning
 A choice being given to resubmit the plagiarised sections with the student’s original
work. This resubmission must be handed to the teacher the next day.

Late Assessment Pieces

Assessment pieces that are late for submission may have a late assessment notification
letter sent home from the class room teacher. Once a letter has been sent home the
student may be required to hand in the assessment piece in the next lesson, or complete
detentions until the assessment piece has been submitted.

BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT

RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR PLAN FOR STUDENTS

It is expected that at all times senior students consider the rights of others and accept
his/her responsibilities as outlined in the Responsible Behaviour Plan. All families have
access to this, whether that be a hard copy or via the College website –
www.tarassc.eq.edu.au.

Some points to note though:

Bullying and harassment

At Tara Shire State College, every person has a right to feel safe. Any person who bullies
another is denying them that right. The school will not tolerate any action that undermines
a person’s right to feel safe and it will take whatever steps are necessary to stop such
behaviour. Any behaviours that occur outside school hours, which may act to adversely
affect the safety or wellbeing of students or staff, can be responded to by the school.
Our approach to bullying and harassment is preventative through providing a positive
social context for student behaviour by: giving consistent messages valuing diversity,
supporting constructive relationships, discouraging violence and aggression and
challenging the abuse of power. We encourage all students to report incidents of
harassment or bullying to a trusted staff member immediately.

-8-
Hands-off policy
To ensure the safety of all students and to respect each other’s personal space we have a
‘hands off’ policy. This includes both consensual and aggressive behaviours except for
supervised curriculum based activities such as sport etc.

Our mobile devices policy

The school acknowledges that there are times when it is appropriate and useful for
students to have access to their mobile phones but at no times should this access
interfere with the learning and welfare of students. Electronic devices brought to school
are to be turned off in class, during assemblies and other school organised activities
unless being used in a teacher directed activity to enhance learning. If a mobile device is
used without teacher consent during a lesson, then the student is required to hand it in to
the office and collect it back after school.

Students must not take photographs, videos or sound recordings of other students and
staff without their consent. They must not make or send harassing or threatening calls or
messages with their electronic devices. Students are able to appropriately use their
electronic devices before and after school and during designated breaks.
