NOTES: 1 Where non-sour service bolts are used on flanges of sour systems, the bolts
should not be insulated or have natural air ventilation restricted in any other
way.
In order to prevent the pressure retaining thickness of pipework and equipment being
compromised, an additional thickness, termed corrosion allowance, is applied to the inside
surface.
The thickness of the corrosion allowance is in line with determined cumulative field life
corrosion rate predictions. Generally, a 6mm corrosion allowance is the largest corrosion
allowance which is considered for carbon steel.
CA is NOT a corrosion control measure. At best, It buys the operator further time before
the unacceptable phase of corrosion (e.g. pipeline leak or wall thickness below that
allowed by design codes) is reached.
The following requirements apply to all linepipes specified for COMPANY’s projects:
