d) Solve the inequality 5 − 𝑥 > 3𝑥 + 2 (3)

8𝑎 )The parallel sides of a trapezium are 𝑦 𝑐𝑚 and (𝑦 + 1)𝑐𝑚 . The distance


between the parallel sides is (𝑦 + 2)𝑐𝑚 and the area of the trapezium is 32cm².
Show that 2𝑦 2 + 5𝑦 − 62 = 0 (4)

b) Given that 𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑥 + 𝑙𝑜𝑔(3 + 𝑥) = 1.

i) Form an equation in 𝑥 and show that it reduces to 𝑥² + 3𝑥 − 10 = 0 (3)

ii) Hence or otherwise find the value of 𝑥. (2)

c) Solve for x in 4𝑥 4 =324 (3)

9a) The table below shows the distribution of marks of 20 learners in a Mathematics
test.

ii) The information is to be shown in a pie chart. Calculate the angle that
represents learners who scored 11 marks. (2)

iii) Two learners are chosen at random from the group. Calculate the probability
that their marks are both less than 14. (2)

b) Solve the equation 3𝑥² − 5𝑥 − 7 = 0. Give the answers to 2 decimal places. (5)

10a) Construct:

i) triangle ABC with AB=8cm, AC=7cm and angle BAC=120° (5)


ii) a perpendicular line from A to BC to meet BC at D (2)
iii) a locus of points that are 3cm from AB (3)

b) Measure and write down the length of side BC (1)

c) Mark the point X inside the triangle which is 3cm from AB and on the line AD.

11a) Answer the whole of this question on a sheet of graph paper. Use a scale of 2cm
to 1 unit on both axes for −5 ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 3 𝑎𝑛𝑑 − 8 ≤ 𝑦 ≤ 3.

The table below shows corresponding values for the function 𝑦 = 1 − 2𝑥 − 𝑥²

ii) gradient of the curve at the point where 𝑥 = 1 (2)

iii) area bounded by the curve and the x-axis. (2)
