WHAT IS ATTENTION SPAN?

BY ACADAWN GROUP
Your attention span
is like a spotlight
for your mind.
Imagine this
spotlight shining
on different things
you're doing or
thinking about.
Sometimes it's
broad, covering a
lot of things, and
other times it's
narrow, focusing on
just one thing.

When you can

concentrate on
something for a
while without
getting distracted,
you have a longer
attention span.
It's like having a
strong, steady
spotlight. But if
your mind keeps
jumping around
quickly, your
attention span
might be shorter.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

BY ACADAWN GROUP
World famous computer
scientist Cal Newport
says in his book ‘Deep
Work’, “Two Core
Abilities for Thriving
in the New Economy are:

1. The ability to
quickly master hard
things.

2.The ability to
produce at an elite
level, in terms of both
quality and speed.”

And to achieve these

you must be able to
focus on your daily
work for longer periods
of time.

But there is a war

going on you Attention
Span on all the social
media platforms,
because that’s how the
big tech brings in the
money, by hooking you
to these irrelevant
short contents , that
not only waste your
time when you are on
these platforms, but
also diminish your
ability to focus when
you are off these
platforms and you have
to actually perform or
learn.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR
ATTENTION SPAN?

BY ACADAWN GROUP
STEP 1:REDUCE YOUR SHORT
CONTENT CONSUMPTION

By watching short form

content you are training
your brain to focus on
particular stuff for a
limited time before you
can swipe up and get a
new type of
entertainment.

The algorithms are

designed to first
analyze your interests
by putting new content
on your screen and then
record your watch time.
and they figure out what
kind of stuff you like
and then throw you in to
this bottomless pit of
entertainment, that you
do not want to leave
because there is
something interesting
waiting for you at every
swipe .

STEP 2:LEARN TO EMBRACE
BOREDOM
Here is a challenge for
you, pick up a non-
fiction or a textbook
that you can get your
hands on right now and
read it for 40 minutes
straight and you are not
allowed to even move from
your place or do anything
but read.

About 90% of you people

can’t do it which is an
indication that your
attention span is poor.
Your ability to withstand
boredom can be a major
factor in ensuring your
success in any endeavour.
That’s why elite level
performers get so much
done, because they can
withstand long sessions
of focused working
without looking at their
phone in the name of a
“break”.

Here is a secret, never

bring any sort of
entertainment in your
work break, the break is
supposed to be a pause,
not a chance to drift off
your work entirely.
Instead, just start deep
breathing and hydrate
yourself and see how
recharged you will feel
and it will be much
easier to indulge in the
task at hand again. The
break is supposed to be
BORING!!!

STEP 3:OPTIMISE YOUR WORK
ENVIRONMENT

Your workspace needs to be

optimal for focus.

1. Keep your phone out of

your immediate reach/ as
far away as you can.
2. Maximise natural light
in your workspace to
enhance your mood and
alertness.
3. Establish your
working/study hours and
before jumping into
work, plan in detail the
tasks you will perform.
4. Use the pomodoro
technique, where you put
a timer for 25 mins of
work and 5 mins of rest.
This is really the best
technique to get a lot
of work done without any
burnouts and remember,
the 5 min break should
consist of just
breathwork, hydration
and stretching. Make it
boring:)
