3.1 METHODOLOGY

Methodology refers to the systematic and structured approach used to conduct research, investigation,
or analysis. It encompasses the theoretical and philosophical framework, research design, methods, and
techniques employed to collect and analyze data, and interpret findings.

This work will be unravel through pedestrian participat observer's research approach . this is because it
gose by the way of applying technical methods to investigate and unveil problems and arrival at getting
solutions of the problems. The method will be applied relating with all other relevant techniques in the
course of the investigation, using both qualitative and qualitative research method.

1. Research design: The overall plan and structure of the research.

2. Data collection methods: Surveys, interviews, observations, experiments, etc.

3. Data analysis techniques: Statistical analysis, content analysis, etc.

4. Data interpretation: Drawing conclusions and making inferences from the findings.

A well-defined methodology ensures:

1. Clarity and transparency

2. Systematic and organized approach

3. Consistency and reliability

4. Validity and accuracy of findings

5. Replicability and generalizability


Methodology is essential in various fields, including social sciences, natural sciences, healthcare,
business, and more, to ensure that research is conducted in a rigorous, ethical, and unbiased manner.

The methodology involves both primary and secondary source of information .

The primary data collection includes field works involving trips by the researcher to the state and
places to get the informations from .interviews the selected Bata dancers and Bata drummers in other
to get informations on the topic at hand . bata associated Egungun mask custodians ,sango devotees
and other principal custodian of the traditional practices of the people will be conducted to draw first
hand oral information, the researcher also adopts purposive sampling of contemporary professional
Bata dancers and Bata drummers of the state she is using, the Nigeria to observe and participate in the
traditional festivals and ceremonies which features various form and patterns of Bata dance.

The secondary data of information will involve consultation of journals ,textbooks ,projects, periodicals
and audio - visual documents to authenticate our findings in the process of getting information.
3.2. RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The research questions for this project are :

1.How do the Bata drums and dances communicate and reinforce traditional beliefs and values within
Yoruba culture?

2. How does the ritual context of Bata dance form impact the experience of dancers, performers, and
observers?

3. What role does Bata dance form play in the social and cultural life of Yoruba communities in Nigeria?

4. How does the recreational aspect of Bata dance form contribute to community bonding and well-
being?

5. How have the meanings and functions of Bata dance form changed over time, and how have these
changes been influenced by external factors such as colonialism and globalization?

6. How does the performance of Bata dance form facilitate spiritual and emotional healing within
Yoruba communities?

7.How do gender roles and dynamics impact the performance and reception of Bata dance
