CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK FOR HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT: NEP 2020

Abstract
Education is the process where every individual learns the things according their ability and
interest because every child has their own unique quality like strength, personality, inner talent and
ability. For this unique quality we need to design the activity based curriculum for the students.
Syllabus is the important part in the process of child development and teaching-learning process. Child
development is the prime part of the education. When we look forward in this scenario, the level of
competition increasing day by day. For this purpose, we focusing the children’s curriculum and co-
curriculum activities inside and outside school and college also. Foremost requirement of the syllabus
is to reduce in essential part according to subject and make wide space for critical thinking in subject
content of pedagogy, make sure the curriculum should be holistic discovery based and discussion
based. These curriculum parameter and aspect fulfil only one word that is holistic development.
Holistic development is the overall development of child that means social, emotional, physical,
mental and intellectual growth of the person. Holistic development in education means focussing on
the child overall growth in various manner/aspects. Holistic development promotes self -confidence,
self-awareness and increasing good sense of responsibility in each and every work. Holistic
development process will help to develop the strong critical thinking abilities and problem-solving
attitude among students.
Holistic development is the extensive approach in teach which objective rich the goal for
developing multiple abilities in human mind. It is the development of physical, emotional, intellectual,
social development of students and promotes the learning style with higher order skill improvement.
Holistic development is the combination of enhancing education model of empowering students’
performance and teacher strategies in different area. Its benefits helpful to increase the standard of
education and these standards will strengthen the nation building process of achievement.

Introduction
The holistic approach to education develops a learner’s social and academic maturity to accept
life’s challenges, build their understanding, and learn from their errors (Sarkar, 2022).Holistic
education prepares a student for lifelong learning. The educational focus moves toward the life
skills,attitudes,and personal awareness the student will need in an increasingly complex world (Sarkar,
2022).The holistic approach to education develops social –emotional understanding and giving
opportunities for facing the challenges.NEP 2020 State that education should be focussed on practical
learning not on theoretical based. Quality education is the requirement of the society and there no any
gender bias caste, any other things are part for education. In NEP 20202, Holistic education is the fully
development of human personality in all perspective like Cognitive, emotional, social, intellectual,
spiritually).
NEP 2020 will transform this model through a flexible curriculum that creatively combines various
disciplines. Learner will be able to choose from language and also integrate Applied Science,
Mathematics, and Busmen Studies with humanities and arts (PBNS, 2022).NEP 2020 has laid
transformative ideas to reshape education. Teachers are central to the success of our education system
(Macmilan, 2020).and this education system. Education is the source of learning where teacher is the
eminent factor for brainstorming the learner ability. When it will come to connect with the real
education pattern of practical cum theory based learning it gives lots of benefit to education system’

In order to thrive in today’s fast-paced world of technology, people need multiple skills and
the ability to think creatively. In today’s digital world life is going to be very fast and depends on fully
technology based education system. Multiple skills necessary for multiple activity perform in school
(curriculum and co-curriculum activities) Holistic education is based on the idea that children can be
taught in a more natural and engaging way. Rather than compartmentalizing school subjects, the
holistic approach seeks to empower children to use their academic learning as a foothold for their
emotional and social empowerment (ScholarBase, 2014)

A Holistic Approach
A holistic approach motivates and inspire student to learn the subject in theoretically as well
as practically. Holistic approach helpful for developing curiosity and allow to learn and understand the
concept to learn the subject in naturally, creatively and practically. It also developing their skills and
build their confidence to actively participating in school activities. Enhancing the quality of students
and they will find their way and connecting their bridge in between education in real world facts. Their
creative skills raise to help in solving their problem in various direction. Holistic approach gives
blessing to education and the process of development of mind, body and spirit.

Characteristics of holistic Approach

 It is a supportive and positive environment providing the education in how to learn and what
to learn
 Encouraging the students to explore their knowledge and raisin the questions for self-direction.
 Also exploring the interest passion knowledge in their energy achievement in goal setting of
currier.
 To change the paradigm shift in education from content based learning to experiential learning.
 Useful technique and strategies for healthy education environment and student engagement.
 Capabilities should be depends on teacher competencies, students pre-test, pedagogy
experiential learning, flexible curriculum, Good and positive infrastructure of school.

Intellectual Ability Development
It is also known as cognitive ability. Intellectual ability is those where we got information and
knowledge for holistic development. Intellectual development is all about learning skill enrichment.
In this process how children use their mind ideas, thoughts and views for living in this environment.
Language play very important role in intellectual development .It is an ability to growth and build a
child’s ability to learn, to think, to imagine, to reflect the thoughts in world. Through this ability
children can solve their problem in required area or field. Which is very much important to organise
the mind and ideas in specific zone where needful.

Physical Ability Development

Physical development it is related to motor skill activity example climbing, walking, running,
pushing, pulling these skill involves muscle coordination and also psychomotor domain are related
to the holistic development through these activities. When an individual physically fit that means
he/she is mentally fit. When Child is physically well develop then he/she learn the new think, enjoy
the practical knowledge and observing the new situation with enthusiasm. In School /College every
day physical activity is compulsory like yoga, exercise, and sport. Physically fit children perform very
strongly and confidently because they have sufficient energy to learn, to understand and to apply in
any problematic situation. In education child’s overall development is very much important and this
development process physical development play very important role.

Mind Ability Development

Nurturing and proper care of mind is a sign of healthy brain. Healthy brain is key of success
and provide the opportunities to every individual in their career. Stable and healthy mind play vital
role in very working place where it is needful. Mind ability raise the confidence in logical and
reasoning area where learner can enhancing their quality and smartness in any profession world. Mind
ability is improve the conceptual framework of the any content by their imagination and thought
process. For good and positive response of mind is needed then more practice for mindfulness activity
and positive environment. In education make the school or college environment stress and burden free
and establish the respectful rapport between students and teacher.

Emotional Ability Development

It involves through their emotion, feelings and caring about self-activities and work done by
these feeling .For this bringing up the social activities in part of community engagement and awareness
program and emotional sides of the mind needs to observation experience and evaluation for these

learning to get closer for understanding and positive relationship, positive behaviour reaction from
these act. These positive behaviours develop their trust and faith towards their work and it’s also part
of holistic development. Today’s scenario we look forward towards the youth, the low penitent
increase the anger level, Self-discipline is very important to control the anger and social development
necessary to teach them to control their emotions for that they will give anger management, dealing
with changing behaviour, depress, stress management. These factor are responsible for to good social
development and these can possible only education.

Social Ability Development

Social Development is integral part of education to develop the social, spiritual ,aesthetic and
moral values among styudents.every individual is the part of society and for this society we need to
make good citizen for national integration,. Due to this development we generating youth power and
strength to build the reputation of country and growth income and status of India .A good student is a
good citizen .In holistic development social development play vital role in emerging the growth of
education and economy of the country .Live for nation and live for values is important in society.

Why Holistic development Important

From beginning of the education, we always focus on over all development of child. From
ancient, medieval and present era child development is necessary for student enable to learn new things
from different activities. In education purpose to actively participation of students in all perceptive of
curriculum it means make sure to enhance the quality of physical and, mental ability. It is imperative
for exposing children to opportunities to find and develop their strength to the best of their abilities as
well as strengthen their weaker skills (Mcilroy, 2022) Learning is process of learn the things in
simultaneously manner and it is interconnected to other part of learning like What they See, what they
observe and what they hear .In Teaching –learning process teacher can improve their audio-visual
perception, language awareness and proficiency, fine motor skills,Listesting and responding
skills,focuss and attention towards work. Academic skill build only with the help of social physical
mental and intellectual. Social emotional skills are very much important to learn to regulate owns
emotion and secure it. Express their emotion in good, positive and healthy way in accurate place.
It is imperative for exposing children to opportunities to find and develop their strengths to the
best of their abilities, as well as strengthen their weaker skills.

Significant Predictor of Holistic Development

Self-discipline, self-efficacy, self-regulation, self-reliance is most prominent and significant
predictor for holistic development. If we want to increase the level of education then we need to focus
on these key factors for the holistic indicator.

Team Learning-It increase the self-confidence, leadership quality and it occurs when a person sharing
his/her knowledge and views in order to reach the destination of team work where an individual learn
with together for achieving the goal of team task. Best part of team learning is the strong coordination
and correlation between individuals. It shows hidden quality of the person while doing the team
learning.
Collaborative learning- In collaboration students play important role in large group or peer group.
As par plan activities that provides number of opportunities and problem-solving abilities for learn and
grow with collaboration of group it enhances the cognitive and affective domain ability of the
individual. Due to collaborative learning student enhance their higher order skill of learning and self -
esteem.
Inquiry Based Learning- This is a learning process where engage the students for exploration of
ideas, thought and smart level of questioning that directly connecting the real world. In this process
learning can encourage the students for raising the questions and participating in experiential learning.
Due to this student boost their curiosity towards problem solving process on any topic and increasing
the interest by involvement in inquiry-based learning.
Transforming Leaning
It is the tool to enhancing the results and outcomes of educational values also create the instructional
learning material. Improving the concept and traits of the learning.

Conclusion
We need to understand what children need to requires from education it not only academic
growth but also keep growing other than curriculum like extra co-curricular activities. Every parent’s
motive to send their children in school and college for need to learn some specialized things and
betterment of future and also grooming for holistic development(Social, Intellectual, Physical,
Emotional and Mental)
In all round development that means holistic development Education is the internal part for only
education system can change the behaviours and help students and help students to understand his/her
psychological pressure and teaching -learning process is only way to build up the healthy and powerful
environment to understand the relationship between positive and negative environment. Also build up
self-reliance and team spirit and true communication in education, educationist, policymaker and
stakeholder ensure that to curriculum is not only integrated with theory based but also with large no.
of activities (social and mental) and practice
