i Only carry out the oil level check at interior temperature and not on a rear axle center
assembly which is at operating temperature. Oil which is otherwise needed might flow out when
the rear axle center assembly is hot.
3 If necessary collect which runs out and allow to run out until the oil only drips out of the
opening.
i The rear axle is correctly filled when the oil reaches the bottom edge of the oil filler
hole. If necessary refill with hypoid gear oil.
i The fully synthetic oil can also be used without reservation for rear axle gears
manufactured before 04.11.2001. Mixing old Universal hypoid gear oil and the new FE
hypoid gear oil does not lead to any impairment of the basic functions such as wear
characteristics, leaktightness etc. on the rear axle gear, but should nevertheless be
avoided on account of the better fuel economy.
