CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Rationale

This study focuses on the design concept of a three-storey commercial building

that combines rental stalls, a restaurant, café, office spaces, and apartments, catering to

the diverse needs of occupants and visitors alike.

The first floor is dedicated to a cozy cafe and a delightful restaurant, providing

perfect spots for people to relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, or have a meal. Additionally, this

floor hosts a vibrant marketplace where visitors can shop for a wide range of goods,

making it a lively and bustling area.

The second floor is exclusively for modern offices. These office spaces are

designed to be functional and comfortable, catering to professionals who need a

productive work environment. The placement of offices on the second floor offers a quiet

and focused area for businesses to thrive.

The third floor houses comfortable room apartments. These apartments are ideal

for people who want to live close to where they work. The convenience of having living

spaces within the same building creates a dynamic and integrated community.

In summary, this three-storey building combines dining, shopping, working, and

living in one place. It is a multi-functional space that meets various needs, providing

convenience and fostering a vibrant community atmosphere. This thesis will use certain

applications like autocad and staad, helping in designing a three-storey commercial

building for better functionality and sustainability.

1
Objectives of the Study

The primary aim of this project is to create a complete plan and design a three-

storey commercial building.

Significance of the Study

Students studying civil engineering will have the chance to put their knowledge

and abilities to use by creating a three-storey commercial building that puts aesthetics and

functionality. Adherence to construction codes and regulations guarantees the well-being

and safety of building occupants.

Scope and Delimitation

The goal of this project is to present a thorough design proposal, with an emphasis

on the architectural and structural aspects.

The scope of this project includes:

1) Detailed architectural design: Creating a complete plan with the help of AutoCad.

2) Design Analysis: Staad Pro will analyze the plan and provide the number of rebars in

beams and columns.

The limitations of this project are as follows:

1) Exclusion of actual construction: The two-storey commercial building will not be

physically constructed as part of this project.

2) Analysis of unit prices: This will entail gathering and analyzing cost information for
labor, building supplies, and other project-related resources.

2
Definition of Terms
• Commercial Building: A structure designed and constructed for commercial

purposes, such as retail, dining, office spaces, or other business activities.

• Rental Stalls: Individual spaces within a commercial building that are leased or

rented out to vendors or businesses for the purpose of selling goods or providing

services.

• Restaurant: An establishment where meals are prepared and served to customers

in exchange for payment. Restaurants may offer a variety of cuisines and dining

experiences, ranging from casual to fine dining.

• Café: A small restaurant or coffeehouse that typically serves beverages such as

coffee, tea, and light snacks. Cafés often provide a relaxed and informal

atmosphere for patrons to socialize or work.

• Office Spaces: Areas within a commercial building that are designated for

professional work activities, such as administrative tasks, meetings, and

collaboration among employees or tenants.

• Sustainability: The practice of designing, constructing, and operating buildings

in a way that reduces negative environmental impacts, conserves resources, and

promotes long-term ecological balance.
