    Symptom

    • In EPM Add-in, the following error occurs when refreshing or sending data in reports/input schedules
    (templates):
    • Error: "500 Connection timed out Error: -5 Version: 7200 Component: ICM Date/Time: Mon Mar
    4 13:45:49 2013 Module: icxxthr_mt.c Line: 4295 Server: EPM-BW-DEV_BWD_00 Error Tag: {-}
    Detail: Connection to partner timed out after 60s"
    OR
    • The execution of report Default failed. Please contact you administrator
    Details: Internal Server Error: 500 Connection timed out
    OR
    • Internal Server Error
    Details: 500 Connection timed out
    • The following error appears in the syslog (SM21)
    • Basis System: Delete session <transaction_number> after error Execution was canceled
    (Softcancel) [Warning/Session]
    AND
    • ThSoftCancel: delete <transaction_number> because of soft cancel with reason
    DP_SOFTCANCEL_ICM_PROCESSING_TIMEOUT

    Environment

    • SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10 for NetWeaver (all Service Packs)
    • EPM Add-in for Microsoft Office (all Service Packs)

    Reproducing the Issue

    1. Log on to EPM Add-in,


    2. Open a report or input template
    3. Click the 'Refresh' or 'Save Data' button

    Cause

    • Due to refreshing or saving large amounts of data (depending on the volume, capacity of server...), the
    ICM processing (PROCTIMEOUT) timeout setting is set too low.
    • The ICM processing timeout setting (PROCTIMEOUT) defines the processing timeout for
    communicating with the back end (work process) and needs to be kept alive during this period of time
    for processing.
    • The processing timeout specifies the timeout between sending an HTTP request and receiving an
    HTTP response.

    • Refer to SAP Note 824554 related to ICM and SAP Web Dispatcher Timeout Parameter and Timeout
    Options for ICM and Web Dispatcher

    Resolution

    For HTTP (Non-secure / Non-SSL) connections:

    1. Logon to the BW system.


    2. Run RZ10 transaction,
    3. Increase or change the property to PROCTIMEOUT=3600 to the icm/server_port_<xx> ICM parameter
    4. Save the modifications,
    5. Restart BW instance
    i.e. icm/server_port_1 - PROT=HTTP, PORT=81$$, VCLIENT=1,
    TIMEOUT=3600,PROCTIMEOUT=3600

    For HTTPS (SSL) connections:

    1. Logon to the BW system.


    2. Run RZ10 transaction
    3. Increase or change the property to PROCTIMEOUT=3600 to the icm/server_port_<xx> ICM parameter
    4. Save the modifications
    5. Restart BW instance.
    i.e. icm/server_port_1 - PROT=HTTPS, PORT=81$$, VCLIENT=1,
    TIMEOUT=3600,PROCTIMEOUT=3600

    Note please review your ICM settings to confirm they are configured correctly as specified in the SAP help
    file: Configuration of the Web Dispatcher Server Port

    For parameter PORT=XXXX, it is possible to check the port used as follows:

    run /nSMICM transaction then click menu 'Goto / Services'.
