B. RATIONALE

Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) represent a dynamic and culturally rich

combat tradition renowned for its practical applications in self-defense
and its deep historical roots. Despite its effectiveness and cultural value,
FMA often receives less attention compared to other martial arts such as
Karate, Taekwondo, and Judo, which are more prominently featured in
local competitions organized by institutions in Naga City.
The “FISTS OF FURY: Filipino Martial Arts Invitational Tournament”
aims to address this disparity by providing a dedicated platform for
Filipino martial artists to showcase their skills and gain the recognition
they deserve.
This project is about organizing a tournament that will feature
various categories in accordance with age. The event will be open to all
Filipino martial artists in Naga City and the Bicol Region, aiming to attract
a diverse range of competitors and spectators.

In the Bicol Region, and specifically in Naga City, Filipino Martial

Arts are widely practiced, with “Kuntaw” being a prominent example.
Kuntaw, akin to Kung Fu, is a traditional martial art that has a

significant following in the region. Despite its popularity, Kuntaw and
other Filipino martial arts are currently underrepresented in official
tournaments, which are predominantly organized by private clubs or
informal groups. The absence of institutional support limits the visibility
and growth of these martial arts.

Attach herewith is the passed resolution of CYO 2024 - 003 entitled

“A RESOLUTION EARNESTLY REQUESTING THE CITY GOVERNMENT
OF NAGA, THROUGH THE SK FEDERATION OF NAGA AND THE CITY
YOUTH OFFICIALS, TO INCLUDE FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS
TOURNAMENT AS PART OF THE LINGGO NG KABATAAN 2024
CELEBRATION”.

C. OBJECTIVES

 To provide Filipino martial artists with a platform to showcase their skills

and gain recognition within the local and regional community.
 To promote Filipino Martial Arts: Increase awareness and appreciation for
Filipino Martial Arts, including Kuntaw, by highlighting their cultural and
historical significance.
 To create a sense of community and camaraderie among Filipino martial
artists, enthusiasts, and supporters through a well-organized event.
