Grade 4 Day:
CHAPTER
Topic:
1 Characteristics of Major Group of Living Things

Student Learning Outcomes:

Compare and contrast the characteristics that distinguish major group of living things
(plants and animals)

Time:
Time:6
Previous Knowledge Testing: 5 min
XY min

Brain Storming through Picture Prompt Ac vity (Engage):

Teacher will Show pictures of living things like plants, different animals, insects and human.
Recall students prior knowledge about plants and animals through these pictures.
Suggested Questions:

1. Identify what is common in all of them? remebering

2. Ask students to name few features of plants and animals that
distinguish them from non living things. remebering
3. Car and Cat both can move. Is car also living thing? Understanding
4. How plants are different from animals? understanding

5. What is common among all these animals? remembering

Time:
Announcement /start of the Lesson 1 min

Teacher will paste the pictures of plant and animal on the board and will ask students to predict
what they are going to learn today? Then announce the topic and write it on the board.
Time:
Main Concept / Action plan:
20 min
Reading:
1.Show Read and Tell (Explain): (Time: 5 min) Resources
Make words flash cards of the difficult terms and words need explanation
from the textbook (e.g respire, reproduce, photosynthesis and classification). words flash cards
(7.5/5.6 inch)
Show the flash cards read aloud with the students then elaborate them
through discussion.
2.Self Reading Challenge: (Time: 5 min)
Ask Students to read pages 2, 3 and 4.and also solve activity on page 3 plants animals
both
Pair Share Activity: (Time 10 min) characteristics of them characteristics
Students in pairs will draw a Venn diagram in their notebooks
and will write the similarities and differences between plants
and animals. When students have filled the Venn diagram.
1
Teacher will ask each pair to tell one difference and from the last pairs ask similarities.
3. Guided Reading (Elaboration): (Time: 5 min)
Now teacher will read and elaborate the points missed by the students.

Time:
Sum up: 14 min

Text to Text connection: (Time : 2 min)

Teacher will inquire science queries given in textbook and give 30 seconds to think and answer.
Thumbs up / Thumbs Down (Evaluate): (Time: 5 min)
Ask students to show thumbs up if they understood the lesson and thumbs down
if anything was not clear. Then ask students who showed thumbs down to tell the
unclear point. Teacher clarify all the points.
Ending speech: (Time: 2 min)
Teacher will summarize the lesson and will add important points with the help of students.
Show and Guess: (Time: 3 min)
Teacher will show the pictures of processes of living things such
as growth, photosynthesis, respiration,reproduction, feeding,
movement, etc. Teacher will show the picture and ask the students
to raise their hands and guess the picture. If any student fail to guess
pass it to next student.

Exit Ticket: (Time 2 min)

Teacher will end the class by asking Suggested Questions for Formative assessment:
1.Why we classify living things? evaluating
2.How we classify living things? applying
3. Can we classify plants and animals further and on which basis? analyzing

Home Extension: (Home work to be filled by the teacher)

Throughout the lesson which

levels of Bloom’s taxonomy
Reflection: (will be filled by the teacher) were achieved:
Remembering
What resources were used for the lesson? Understanding
Applying
Analyzing
Evaluating
Creating

Were all SLO’s achieved? Which topic needs to be revised?
