SUPPLIER’S NARROW ELASTICS MAT ERIAL INT EGRITY

Hanesbrands expects all narrow elastics material suppliers to have systems in place that ensure the
quality and integrity of the narrow elastics material components used to manufacture the product
being provided to Hanesbrands. In certain markets, evidence of control of incoming component
quality may be required.

PRODUCT CHANGES
Product substitutions, functional manufacturing changes, or yarn changes are not allowed without
alerting Hanesbrands and obtaining written authorization to proceed with changes. Until the changes
are formally approved by Hanesbrands in the form of an updated, revised, or new specification the
current product should be supplied.

PRODUCT TRACEABIL ITY

Hanesbrands expects all narrow elastics material suppliers to have systems in place that allow for
product integrity and traceability. Your product traceability practices must allow any fabric supplied to
Hanesbrands to be traced back to its specific dye lot, narrow elastics material style, country of origin
and purchase request.

PRODUCT EXCLUSIVITY
Hanesbrands requires worldwide exclusivity on decorative patterns, laces and logos customized
exclusively for us. On products where this is the case, an exclusivity agreement or clause will need to
be signed by a legally authorized representative of the narrow elastics material supplier’s company.

PRODUCT FIT FOR USE

Narrow elastics materials are selected for aesthetics, function, and physical performance. Once a
narrow elastics material style is approved for use by Hanesbrands, all future production is expected to
maintain the same composition, aesthetics, function and performance criteria throughout the narrow
elastics material style’s life cycle.

PRODUCT SPECIFICATION
Narrow elastics materials require product specifications. The specification will serve as the agreement
of the expected quality and performance of the product being supplied to Hanesbrands. When
feasible, if we are provided with an existing product specification we will use it. However, this may not
be the case in every instance. We reserve the option to have a specification that is specific to a
product’s intended use and may be different than that originally provided.

SPECIFICATION CHANGES
In the event the agreed upon specification cannot be met once the narrow elastics material is in
production, a supplier may request a material specification revision. It is supplier’s responsibility to
inform Hanesbrands of the specification change request. Until Hanesbrands has approved the
specification changes the supplier should continue to produce to the currently approved specification,
not the proposed.
Narrow elastics materials are selected to meet specific aesthetic, function and performance criteria.
Hanesbrands must first determine if the proposed changes are acceptable for the garment(s) that the
narrow elastics material is used on. Sufficient yardage representing the proposed changes may be
required for testing and evaluation.
Suppliers should work directly with the Hanesbrands Material Specification Team contact that helped
create the original specification. If an appropriate contact is not available, suppliers should contact the
appropriate Quality Manager for guidance.

HANESBRANDS SUPPLIER CERTIFICAT ION

Hanesbrands Quality Resources has initiated a supplier certification process that suppliers may be
asked to participate in. Successfully maintaining the conditions of certification may reduce direct
submitting requirements. Additional information is available on the Hanesbrands Global Quality Site.

GENERAL NARROW ELASTICS MAT ERIAL T ESTING REQUIREMENTS

Hanesbrands expects all narrow elastics material suppliers to provide us with component narrow
elastics materials that meet or exceed the agreed upon performance parameters and shade
requirements. It is the narrow elastics material supplier’s responsibility to conduct sufficient tests and
process checks to ensure this guidance is met.

HANESBRANDS OWNED NARROW ELASTICS MATERIAL SUPPLIERS

Hanesbrands owned narrow elastics material suppliers should follow the guidance established for the
manufacturing operation and in accordance to Hanesbrands Quality Policy and the appropriate Testing

COMPLIANCE TESTING
Compliance Testing

If you are expected to meet a specific compliance on a narrow elastics material you are providing
Hanesbrands, we will required proof of compliance for all currently active narrow elastics material
styles and colors at the frequency stated below. This testing must be conducted by an approved 3rd
Party Lab.

Compliance Method Proof of Compliance Due

Lead Testing 1 Time per Year as applicable
Nickel Content 1 Time per Year as applicable
Antimicrobial 1 Time per Year as applicable
Formaldehyde 1 Time per Year as applicable
Phenol Detection (BHT) 1 Time per Year as applicable
UV Protection 1 Time per Year as applicable
Other Compliance Testing as Indicated by HBI 1 Time per Year as applicable
The interface may be between the apparel contractors on behalf of the narrow elastics material
supplier or directly with the narrow elastics material provider. Regardless of how the narrow elastics
material is engaged, Hanesbrands expects all narrow elastics materials to be tested in accordance to
this guidance and results made available to Hanesbrands.
You may need to test more frequently than once per year to ensure continued performance. This
guidance does not limit testing, it just, specifies the frequency that we will require proof of your
compliance. This does not replace or substitute for any legal or regulatory requirements associated
with the material you are supplying.
Suppliers should house the proof of compliance internally, however up to date information should be
made immediately available upon request by Hanesbrands.

FLEX TESTING FOR NARROW ELASTICS

For Narrow Elastic fabrics that contain an elastomer (any type of elastane or rubber core) to impart the
elongation and stretch properties, Hanesbrands requires that it must satisfactorily pass the
Hanesbrands Elastomeric Flexing test during the development phase.

The procedure
Elastomeric Flexing SA010
and instructions for constructing a flex tester are available on the Hanesbrands Sharepoint site.
https://hanes.sharepoint.com/sites/CorporateQualityTesting/SitePages/Corp%20Lab%20Test%20Metho
ds%20Page.aspx
Once a narrow elastic is approved for production, Hanesbrands expects suppliers to periodically check
production to confirm continued passing performance. The minimum frequency for this check is once
per quarter for every currently active style being produced. The results should be maintained
internally by the supplier but made available immediately upon request by the Hanesbrands personnel.

ELONG ATION AND MOD ULUS TESTING

If narrow elastics contains 5% or more any type of elastane, elastomer, or rubber, it must be tested for
Elongation and Modulus. The Material Specification team will work with you to determine the ideal
test cycles, test load, and modulus for our intended end use.

MOISTURE MANAG EMENT TESTING

Hanesbrands requires that when a narrow elastics material is expected to meet a specific moisture
management property, it satisfactorily passes the relevant moisture management tests during
development and production. Additionally, when chemistries and formulations are expected to be
used, they are required to be used in the agreed up quantities and applications.

ELASTIC TESTING REQU IREMENTS

The specific testing that must be performed is detailed in this section. Please be aware additional
testing may be required in addition to what is listed. Hanesbrands will offer instruction when that is
the case. Be aware not all tests listed are applicable to every fabric in this category. An understanding
of basic testing and fabric capability is expected so that time is not wasted trying to conduct tests that
are not applicable or reasonable for the specific product under evaluation. If questions arise
concerning which tests to conduct, seek guidance from the Material Specification Development Team
or the appropriate Hanesbrands Quality Management Representative.
DEVELOPMENT PHASE
The fabric submitted for development is consider the Standard of Production (SOP). It must past all
development testing conducted. Items that fail a criteria test should not be accepted and may require
redevelopment in order to meet the requested performance criteria. Hanesbrands may make
exceptions for specific criteria but these exceptions must be well documented.
For Development Testing, the test results for each specific physical parameter must meet the mutually
agreed upon performance criteria established between Hanesbrands and the supplier/contractor. All
other requirements must meet the HBI minimum requirements. Any accepted deviations from the
stated minimum requirement must be detailed out on the narrow elastics material specification once
the development is approved by Hanesbrands. The mutually agreed upon specification must be signed
by supplier/contractor in order to make production.
PRODUCTION PHASE
Producers of narrow elastics material must have an approved narrow elastics material specification on
record. The pass/fail criteria for a narrow elastics material will be both the narrow elastics material
specification and the HBI minimum requirement. Suppliers are expected to provide Hanesbrands with
narrow elastics materials that meet or exceed the agreed upon parameters and the HBI minimum
requirements. Do not intentionally or knowingly submit out of specification narrow elastics
materials to Hanesbrands or their Labs.
If a supplier would like Hanesbrands to consider an out of specification narrow elastics material for
use, please submit a deviation request in accordance with the deviation request process located in the
Hanesbrands Quality Manual and on the SharePoint document site.
https://hanes.sharepoint.com/sites/CorporateQualityTesting/SitePages/Deviations%20Page.aspx
The approved deviation notice should be forwarded to the relevant Hanesbrands testing lab at the
time of submission for production approval so they are aware of the overriding guidance.

OUT OF SPEC GOODS AND DEVIATION REQUESTS

Suppliers are expected to test narrow elastics materials prior to submitting to Hanesbrands.
Therefore, suppliers should know before Hanesbrands, that specific lot(s) do not meet our criteria.
Suppliers should immediately take steps to either rework, remake or request a deviation. Material
deviations can be requested for Shade or Physical reasons. Since production timelines must be
maintained, it is imperative that actions are taken as soon as the out of specification condition is
recognized. Delays will impact multiple processes that depend on the narrow elastics material being
supplied.
Please note: There is no guarantee that Hanesbrands will accept a deviation. In all cases, each request
will be considered.
The approved deviation notice should be forwarded to the appropriate Hanesbrands testing lab at the
time of submission for production approval so they are aware of the overriding guidance .
