Concept Objects differ in weight in comparing the mass, we use the


symbol > greater than . < less than or = equal to.
1 kilogram (kg) = 1000 grams (g) . Greater mass is heavier and
smaller mass is lighter.

illustartion board ( show me board),apples and bananas (real
objects)

(10 minutes) Show pictures of of food items.
Say: When I show an object, measured by gram, clap your hands once, if an
object measured by kilogram, clap your hands twice.

Say: I have here different kinds of fruit
Ask:
What do you call this fruit?
Possible Answer: an apple
How about this fruit?

What color is the apple? How about this banana?

Where can we buy this fruit?
Possible Answer: in the market
Is it important to eat these kinds of food? Why?
Possible Answer: Yes, it is important to eat these kinds of food for us to be
healthy.
Name some fruits and vegetables found in our community.
Possible Answer: eggplant, star fruit, squash (answers may vary)

Present the word story. Let them read the story.

Say: Who are the characters in the story?


Possible Answer: The characters in the story are Ana and Rosa.

Possible Answer: 3 kilograms
Ask: Which set of fruit is heavier? Why?
Note: Show to the class the weight of the said fruits using a real weighing scale.
Possible Answer: the banana,3 kilograms is heavier than 500 grams.

(10 minutes) Performing the activity
Group 1: Which is Which?
Compare the object in each set. Check the one that is heavy, cross out the one
that is light.

Group 2: Closer You and I


Look at the picture and compare the food items in each set. Circle the one that
is heavy and box the one that is light.
