When a teacher walks into class in the morning, she says: 大家早！what does that mean?

平常 means “Usually”, means something you do at a regular basis as a norm and routine (intentional).
In English, some “usually” sentences are actually “often” sentences; it is a subtle difference. Please
read the following sentence and write down either
平常 / 常常 next to the sentence.

He usually gets up early to exercise.

He is usually late coming to class.
Do you usually eat breakfast?
She usually comes early, but why is she so late today?
I usually go to sleep late; often I don’t go to bed until midnight.

Today we learned 怎么 as a HOW COME? It has about the same meaning as 为什么. Like 很 and 真, 为什么
is a more objective in asking a cause, but 怎么 conveys a feeling that is more of a surprise and
bewilderment of the speaker, and it is not necessarily a question, but to express a feeling. Read the
following sentences and translate them into English:

你怎么现在才来?!
他怎么没有跟你去看电影？
怎么，你不认识他？ 他不是你的老师吗？

“这么+ adjective” is “soooo something, this something”,

“这么+ verb”: this way of doing something. Read the following sentences and translate them into
English:

你昨天睡得这么晚。
今天你这么早就来学校了。
你这么打孩子是不可以的。
这么做功课很不好。

Read the following sentences and decide if you should use 很，真 or 这么 or
那么 in the sentences. Write either 很，真 or 这么, 那么 after the sentences.

She is really nice！

Many times we see 怎么 and 这么 in one sentence, increase the feeling in both “how come” and “so” the
degree of it, such as the following. Please read out loud and translate:

What do 上课，上学 (VO) mean? How about 下课, 下学 (VO)？

When the teacher walks into the classroom, if it is in the morning, she/he may greet her students by
saying 同学们早！If it’s any time, she/he may greet them by saying “同学们好！” What do both of these
mean?
