Today, you will learn about the technical drafting

materials and tools, as well as with its uses.
But, before that, let us know first what is technical

drafting.
What comes to your mind when you hear the - For me, technical drafting is about

Technical drafting is the study of the

communication of ideas through lines, symbols,
codes, drawings, sketches, charts, graphs, and
maps. It refers to technical drawings such as those
used for structures and buildings.
There are a great variety of drafting materials and

tools used in Technical drafting. The drafting
materials and tools to be discussed include most of
the basic ones but sufficient enough for your
initial understanding about Technical drafting.
Let’s identify first the drafting materials. Do you

drafting, since it is the material where we are
going to draw. It comes in various types.

paper.

it? - It is use to remove errors of drawing.

Correct. Eraser is the main tool use for cleaning

the dirt of the drawing. It is recommended to use
soft eraser for small parts that need to clean like
smudges while hard eraser is used for larger
errors.
- Pencil
I do believe that all of us are familiar with this - Use for writing/drawing.

What is the function of this tool?
Alright! Pencil is one of the most important tools
in drafting since it is the tool we used for drawing.
Pencil comes in different grades which depends on

the quality of a paper as well as the type of line we
are working.
There are three types of drawing pencil.
The first type is Hard pencils, they are used for

areas that need extreme accuracy, medium pencils
are for regular drawings and soft pencil are mainly
use for artworks.
Okay, we are done discussing the Drawing tools.

Let us move on to the Measuring Tools. - It’s a T-square

Do you have any idea why it is called as T-
square? - It is use for measuring horizontal lines.
Very good! It is used to draw horizontal lines and

also serves as guide for triangles.
There are three (3) types of T-squares, namely:

Fixed Head, Movable Head or Adjustable Head
and Detachable Head or Removable Head. - It’s a Triangle Ma’am.
Let us proceed to the next one, what is the

Compass is simply used for drawing arcs and
circles. It is composed of two legs one for the pen
and the other one is the needle point.
Are you familiar with this tool? What do you call - Divider
it? Where do we use this tool? - Used to transfer measurement.

A divider is used so that we can easily transfer
accurate measurements by just adjusting the
divider points. Take note we need constant
practice is necessary before doing and actual
work.
- Ruler
What about this tool? - Used to measure short distances.
What do you think is the function of this tool?

Asides from measuring short distances, ruler is
also used for drawing straight lines. - Protractor
How about this one? What do you call this tool?

Very good! - Used for making arcs.
So, what are the uses of this tool?
Very good!
Protractor is also used for measuring and setting
of
angles other than those obtainable with the
triangles. - None Ma’am.
So those are the different Technical drafting
materials and tools. Do you have any questions

activity is entitled as “Connect Me.” Each group will
pick 1 envelope that contains picture puzzle of
different technical drafting tools and materials. After
juggling the puzzle you’re going to name the picture
and write it uses. Then you’re going connect the
picture in your everyday lives by making a short
sharing of your experiences. Paste/Write your work on
a manila paper. A representative will report it in front
of the class. I’m giving you 5 minutes to finish it. And - None Ma’am.
2 minutes for the reporting. (The students will do the activity.)
