Background
Crossing Bayabas National High School offers a Sunday High School Program who caters
learners who are struggling to subsist in a regular class schedule. Most of the learners enrolled in
this program are working students, learners in difficult circumstances, and with sickness and
disabilities. The institution has two programs who caters learners expanding from Junior High
School to Senior High School − Modified Work Study Program (Junior High School) and Late
Afternoon Program (Senior High School). The implementers of this program are Local School
Board (LSB) teachers of the City of Davao. With the vision, mission, and goals of Department of
Education, to provide equitable access to education for all, the continuous service of Crossing
Bayabas to these varieties of learners establishes support to the learners who continues to pursue
their education and be a productive member of society, and to the betterment of the community.
Rationale
The increasing number of out of school youth in the country in general reportedly showed that
the number of out-of-school youth in the country rose in the first four months of 2020 from 16.9
percent to 25.2 percent.(USAID Philippines, 2020) . With the Local School Board made and its
implementation of the Sunday School Program especially in Crossing Bayabas National High
School helped learners in the community to catch up and helped variety of learners who are in
difficult circumstances, learners with learning gap, and learners with sickness and disabilities.
Further, the program addresses the thirst of the increasing out-of-school youths to finish
secondary education. The MWSP and LAP at Crossing Bayabas National High School explores
blended opportunities for more innovative and cost-effective multiple modalities which are
tailored fit to learner's needs and addressing school conditions such as the use of online
interaction between students and teacher and offline approaches such as face-to-face interaction,
modular assignments and collaborative or individualized instruction learning process. It is
shifting from academically incline to a more outcomes based and competency oriented
curriculum.
Hiring of LSB teachers to teach the students under the Modified Work and Study Program.
Continuity of the service of the teachers hired since some of them were given permanent
item.
The support of the Local Government helped in the sustainability of the Program
Students were able to continue their studies even they are supporting their families.
