I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards  The learners demonstrate an understanding
of the particle nature of matter as basis for
explaining it’s properties and physical
changes.
B. Performance Standards  The learners should be able to: Present how
water behaves in it’s different states within
the water cycle.
C. Learning Competencies  Explain the properties of solid, liquid, and
gas on the particle nature of matter.
Lesson Objectives  Identify the different states of matter.
 Differentiate the properties and
characteristics of solids, liquids, and gases.
 Create a presentation on how water
behaves in it’s different states within the
water cycle.

A. Preliminaries
1. Greetings Good morning class, How are you Good morning ma'am, we are
today? doing fine. Thank you.
2.Prayer Who can lead the prayer? Dear Heavenly Father, As we
gather here today, we invite
Your presence into this
classroom. Lord, bless each
and every student here, as
well as our teacher, as we
embark on another day of
learning. Please give us clear
minds and open hearts so we
can grasp the knowledge and
lessons set before us.
3.Checking of Attendance Who are absent today?  None ma’am
4.Checking of Assignment Pass all your assignments and ill
check it later.
B. Lesson Proper Ask some of your students these

mass.
3. Who was the first person to  Democritus was the first

in 360-470BC.
Very good! Now that you have
understand what is matter, let us
proceed to our new topic for
today.
Establishing the purpose of the Tell the students about the
lesson. Lesson’s objectives.

 Identify the different phases

of matter.
 Differentiate the properties
and characteristics of solids,
liquids, and gases
 Create a presentation on
how water behaves in it’s
different states within the
water cycle.
ENGAGE Before we begin our discussion
Presenting examples of the for today, I will show you some
new lesson. pics and then tell me what can
you say about those pictures.

Directions: Look at the picture

and describe it.

 The first picture is an ice

which is in solid state.

 The second picture is

raindrops that is in liquid
state.

 The last picture is a smoke

that is gaseous.

Well done! All your answers are

correct. This simple activity is
related to our next discussion
which is the; Phases of matter.
EXPLORE
Discussing the new content
and practicing new skills.

Let the learners study the

images shown above and ask
them the following questions:

1. What can you say about the

arrangement of particles in solid,  The arrangement of
liquid, and gas? (closely packed, particles in solid is closely
near, far). packed while liquid
particles are near and gas
2. Can you infer that the particles particles are far from each

in the universe is called “
Matter”.
 It is made up of tiny
particles called atoms.
 It Is anything that occupies
space and has mass.

THE THREE PHASES OF MATTER
AND IT’S CHARACTERISTICS

Solid
It has definite shape and volume
because it’s particles are closely
packed together in a fixed
position. These particles vibrates
and are held together by strong
attractive forces.

Liquid
It has definite volume and takes
the shape of the container. It
flows easily because it’s particles
have enough space and have less
attractive forces.

Gas
It has no definite shape, it takes
the shape and volume of the
container. Gas particles are far
from each other that’s why they
have weak attractive force and
flows easily.

EVALUATE Quiz time!

Evaluating learning. To know whether you
understand our discussion, I will
give you a quiz about our
previous lesson about phases of
matter. Write your answers in a
one whole sheet of paper and
pass it to me when you are done.

Directions: Write T if the

statement is True and F if the The learners will answer the
statement is False. given quiz.

1. Solids can change their shapes.

2. Liquids can take the shape of a
container.
3. Liquids keep their shape.
4. Gases do not have a fixed
shape.
5. Gases are often invisible.

Directions: Look at the items

below and write whether they
are solid, liquid or gas.
