• Cut Nyak Dhien
Cut Nyak Dhien was a woman who was born on 12 May 1848 in Aceh. He was the leader
during the Aceh war against Dutch for 25 years and he was awarded the title of National Hero
of Indonesia on 2 May 1964 by the Indonesian goverment.

When she was a little girl, she was known for her beauty and in the past, many boys liked
her because she was beautiful. Then, when she was 12 years old, she got married and she and
her husband had a beautiful child named Cut Gambang.

Her health slowly decreased and on November 1908, Cut Nyak Dhien passed away. Cut
Nyak Dhien's story teaches us not to give up even through out touhest times.

• Kapten Pattimura

Kapten Pattimura was a famous soldier who was born on 8 June 1783. He was the
symbol of both the Maluku and Indonesian struggle for independence and he was praised
by President Soekarno and declared a National hero.

Pattimura once led an armed rebellion that captured and fought off Dutch
reinforcements. On 29 May 1817, He was declared the leader of Moluccan people.

Unfortunatly, on 11 November 1817, Kapten Pattimura was given death sentence at Fort
Nieuw Victoria. Even though Kapten Pattimura has died, the people of Maluku continue their
praise for Kapten Pattimura.

• Ki Hajar Dewantara

Ki Hajar Dewantara was a man who was born on 2 May 1889 in Yogyakarta. He was a
activist, writer, columnist, and politician of Indonesian Independence.

Ki Hajar Dewantara founded the Taman Siswa School for indigenous commoners. Ki
Hajar Dewantara intended to freely interact with people of all social backgrounds and stay
close to them.

Ki Hajar Dewantara died on 26 April 1959. On 28 November 1959, he was honored as a


National Hero of Indonesia by Indonesia's first president, Soekarno.
Although he has passed away, he will never be forgotten in the Indonesian study history.
• HOS Cokroaminoto

Raden Hadji Oemar Said Tjokroaminoto or H.O.S Cokroaminoto was born in Ponorogo,
East Java, 16th August 1882 amd He died in Yogyakarta, 17 December 1934 at the age of 52
years.

After graduating for elementary school, he continued his education at Opleiding School
Voor Inlandsche Ambtenaren (OSVIA) in Magelang. After graduating, he work as a clerk for the
gobernor in Ngawi.

On may 1912, H.O.S Cokroaminoto founded the Sarekat Islam organization which was
previously known as the Islamic Trade Union amd was elected chairman. One of his famous
trilogies was "Setinggi - tinggi ilmu, semurni - murni tauhid, sepintar - pintar siasat"

• Wage Rudolf Soepratman

Wage Rudolf Supratman was born in Batavia in 1903. Supratman was the som of a
sergeant in the colonial corps, Senen. Supratman moved to Makassar with his sister and
Supratman sister's husband when Supratman was 11 years old.

He got his education and gained a teaching certificate in 1921. When he was 20, He
taught at school called Sekolah Angka 2. During his day in Makassar, Supratman
developed his musical talent. In 1924, Supratman read an article in Timbul Magazine. The
Statement "Native Indonesians were not allowed to create their on national anthem."
triggered Supratman to start composing the song "Indonesia Raya" in the same year.

On 28 October 1928, Supratman played "Indonesia Raya" on his violin. Soon Indonesia
Raya became very popular in the groups. In 1938, Supratman died due to an illness. Indonesia
finally got his Independence on August 17, 1945 and "Indonesia Raya" was sung at the
declaration of Independence.

• Jenderal Sudirman

Sudirman was born into a simple family in the village of Bodas Karangjati, Rembang,
Purbalingga. Sudirman’s education began at HIS native school (Hollandsch inlandsche
school), then moved to the Taman Siswa school and finally to the Wirotomo school.

On 12 November 1945, Sudirman was elected as leader of the People’s Security Army and
promoted to Jenderal. He led troops in a guerrilla war against Dutch military aggression.

Sudirman died on January 29, 1950 due to his tuberculosis. However, his service to the
Indonesian nation was recognized with the highest respect. He was buried with a military
procession and appointed as a Hero Defender of Independence.
