1. Notepad
Notepad is a simple text editor that comes with Windows. It's ideal for quick notes, writing scripts, or
editing simple text files.
Key Features:
• Plain Text Editing: Notepad only supports plain text, without any formatting like bold, italics, or different
fonts.
• File Types: It mainly saves files in .txt format, but you can also use it to create or edit other file types like .bat
or .html.
• Find and Replace: Allows you to search for specific text in your document and replace it with something else
(Ctrl + F to find, Ctrl + H to replace).
• Word Wrap: This feature keeps the text within the window without having to scroll horizontally.
How to Use:
1. Open Notepad by searching for it in the Start Menu.
2. Type your text.
3. Save your work by clicking File > Save and choosing a location and file name.
2. WordPad
WordPad is a basic word processor that offers more formatting options than Notepad but is simpler than
Microsoft Word.
Key Features:
• Rich Text Editing: Supports text formatting like bold, italics, underline, different fonts, and colors.
• Images and Objects: You can insert images, shapes, and other objects into your document.
• Paragraph Alignment: Allows you to align text left, center, right, or justify it.
• File Types: WordPad can save files in .rtf (Rich Text Format), .docx, or plain text .txt.
How to Use:
1. Open WordPad via the Start Menu.
2. Type and format your document using the toolbar.
3. Save your document by clicking File > Save As and selecting a file type.
3. Paint
Paint is a simple graphics editor included in Windows. It's useful for creating basic drawings, editing
images, or making quick annotations.
Key Features:
• Drawing Tools: Includes a pencil, brush, and shape tools to create or edit images.
• Colors: Offers a color palette to choose from and allows you to customize colors.
• Text Tool: Lets you add text to your images.
• Image Manipulation: You can resize, crop, and rotate images.
How to Use:
1. Open Paint from the Start Menu.
2. Use the drawing tools to create or edit your image.
3. Save your image by clicking File > Save As and choosing a format like .png, .jpg, or .bmp.
4. Accessories Options
Windows includes several other useful accessories that you can find in the Windows Accessories folder
within the Start Menu. Some of these include:
• Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch: Used for taking screenshots of specific parts of your screen.
• Calculator: A simple tool for performing basic to advanced mathematical calculations.
• Character Map: Displays the characters available in different fonts, including special characters and symbols.
• Sticky Notes: Allows you to create quick notes that stick on your desktop for easy access.
• Magnifier: A tool that enlarges parts of your screen, useful for those with visual impairments or when you
need a closer look at something.
