what is listening strategies? of listening input.
-Very good! I think you are now ready to move to -Yes ma’am.

very short game. Are you ready?

C. Lesson Proper

-Our topic for today is about Phrase, clause and

sentence. We’re going to discuss first the phrase or
phrases.

-any idea about phrase or phrases class?

-very good class! - Ma’am phrases are group of words.

-can you please read what is phrase?

-( student who volunteer will read the slide)

-Thank you!

-So a phrase is a group of word , can be a short or A phrase can be short or long, but it does not include
long words, but it doesn’t have a complete thought! the subject-verb pairing necessary to make a clause.

For example, Thank you very much.

I really appreciate it. ( students are actively listening)

Never mind.

Excuse me.

Can you give me another example? -glad to see you ma’am.

Any question? -none ma’am

-There are 4 types of phrases

-Noun Phrase

A noun phrase is a group of two or more words

headed by a noun that includes modifiers (e.g., 'the,'
'a,' 'of them,' 'with her'). A noun phrase plays the role
of a noun.

-Verb Phrase

the part of a sentence containing the verb and any

direct or indirect object, but not the subject

-Adjective Phrase

An adjective phrase is a phrase that contains an

adjective, but there’s more to it than that—as a
whole, an adjective phrase is a phrase that acts as an
adjective by describing a noun

-Prepositional Phrase

is a group of words that begins with a preposition

and is followed by a noun or a pronoun.

-Any other question about phrase?

-Now let us move on about to a clause or clauses,

any idea about clauses?

-yes very good, clauses are a group of words also.

-ma’am clauses are a group of words also.
- can you please read what clauses is?

-thank you for reading, so a clause is a subject plus a

verb, again , what is subject? -subject is the doer of the action.

-yes very good answer, subject is the one who act in

the sentence or sentences.
-now what is a verb?

-very good again, verb is an action word, verb is -verb is an action word.
what the doer does.

-now, clause has its subject and verb, where you can
understand it once it is said.

-so there are two types clauses, the first one is the
independent clause, can you please read? -an independent clause can stand on its own because
it has a complete thought, it has a subject and a verb
where you can easily understand what is being said
-So again, an independent clause can stand on its
own because it has a complete thought, it has a
subject and a verb where you can easily understand
what is being said in that phrase or sentences. Is it
clear?

- can you please read the following examples?

-Thank you for reading. Pandas in eat bamboo leaves

-in the first example “Pandas eat bamboo leaves” the Pandas live in the forest.
subject or the doer of the action are the Pandas, you
can easily determine who is the doer of the action
because it has a subject, while the verb in that
sentence is the word “eat” it is an action word.

- are we clear?

-yes Ma’am.
- who can explain the next example?
-The next example is a independent clause because
-very good? It can stand alone or not? it can stand alone.
- Very good! -Yes Ma’am.
- is there any question about independent clause?

None ma’am.
-Lets move on to the second type of clauses which is
the dependent clause. Any idea about dependent
clause? It is also a group of words.

- very good! Dependent clause is opposite to

independent clause.

-can you please what is dependent clause?

- Dependent clause cannot stand alone and doesn’t

have a complete thought.
-thank you!

-it is an incomplete sentence that’s why it can’t stand

alone.

-can you please read the next example?

-When Narda sings.

- why do you think it is a dependent clause?
-It is dependent clause because it is incomplete.

-
-exactly, very good!

-it can’t stand alone because it is incomplete.

Understood?
-are we clear about clauses?
-now let us move on to our next topic which is
about sentences.
- do you have any idea about sentence?
-Sentence is also a group of words.

- very good!
- can you please read what is a sentence?

- Sentence is a group of words that has a complete

thought.
-again sentence has a complete thought it has a
subject and a predicate.
-any idea about subject?
-very good!
-subject is the doer of the action.
- A subject is a part of a sentence that contains the
person or thing performing the action (or verb) in a
sentence.
Example: Jennifer walked to the store.
In this sentence the subject is “Jennifer”
-now who has an idea about predicate?
-it gives information about the subject.

-The predicate is the part of a sentence (or clause)

that tells us what the subject does or is. To put it
another way, the predicate is everything that is not
the subject.
-lets go back to our example “ Jennifer walked to the
store.”
-again Jennifer is the subject and the rest of the

subject is the predicate. So the predicate will be

“walked to the store”
-clear?
-yes Ma’am.

-A re you ready for our activity?

-yes Ma’am.
