SERVICE PROJECT
1. INTRODUCTION

Community service project (CSP) is a participatory approach to learn about society for
community development. It involves students to apply theoretical knowledge to put in
practice to render service activities and community development. CSP aims to create a
interaction between student and society and to make the students to contribute for society and
experience to personal and academic development.

2. OBJECTIVES

 Acquaint with the rural community


 To choose a topic of interest relating to rural conditions to make an in depth study
 To gain a practical knowledge
 To help the candidates to make an attempt to study
 To attain knowledge in write down project report

3. GUIDELINESOF COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

 Students should visit the villages of their choice for 10 days under the community
service project before the commencement of second semester examinations with
prior approval from the field supervisor Any one, Academic counsellor from LSC to
be appointed as supervisor of CSP.
 4 credits to be allocated for community service project within the choice based credit
system.
 Field work book has to be maintained by each student and note down the activities
that are undertaken by the student and obtain the signature in the village from any
responsible person
 Students during 10 days visit to the village on the topic which they have chosen has
to study the conceptual back ground factors responsive understand the issues
intervention strategies suggest the appropriate measures.
 Students should go round the village as a part of transactions walk to understand
about resources available and utilisation of these resources.
 Students should interact all the stake holders of community development viz.,
Panchayati Raj elected representatives functionaries of village women, youth groups
and farmers of the village and elicit their perceptions on village development.
 At the end a report has to be submitted by each student to the field supervisor. An
external viva shall be conducted the examiner appointed by CDE
 The project report should not less than 25 pages covering executive summary,
overview of the community, community social part, activity log for 10 days,
problems identified in the community, action plans, outcomes of community
awareness programs, report of project and recommendations.
 The external examiner has to upload in the CDE portal, the total awarded marks for
100 after completing the viva.

4. PROCEDURE

 Each student or group of students could be assigned for a village as per the students’
choice and convenience.
 First student should visit the village and conduct the socio-economic survey with a
focus on developmental programmes initiated by the Government.
 A project work shall be done on a particular topic of the above areas or relevant to
the above areas.
 A student should also conduct awareness programme on social issues which has to
be mentioned in project report.
 Project report should contain three sections. First section on village survey, Second
section on awareness, Third section report on the topic chosen by the student.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY FOR


COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

The following is the evaluation methodology for awarding marks/grades.

There will be external evaluation for CSP. The Academic Counselor in LSC will
act as a supervisor for the group and is in-charge for the learning activities of t
he students and also for the comprehensive and continuous assessment of the
students.
The assessment is to be conducted for 100 marks. The number of credits
assigned is 4. Later as per the present practice the marks are converted into
grades and grade points to include finally in the SGPA and CGPA.

The weightings shall be:


Project report (Project Log, 50%
Project implementation)
Viva 50%

Each student is required to maintain an individual logbook, where he/she is


supposed to record day to day activities. The project log is assessed on an
individual basis, thus allowing for individual members within groups to be
assessed this way. The assessment will take into consideration the individual
student’s involvement in the assigned work.

While grading the student’s performance, using the student’s project log, the
following should be taken into account–

a. The individual student’s effort and commitment.


b. The originality and quality of the work produced by the individual student.
c. The student’s integration and co-operation with the work assigned.
d. The completeness of the logbook.

The assessment for the Community Service Project implementation shall


include the following components and based on the entries of Project Log and
Project Report:

a) Orientation to the community development


b) Conducting a baseline assessment of development needs
c) Number and Quality of Awareness Programmes organised on beneficiary
programmes and improvement in quality of life, environment and social
consciousness, motivation and leadership, personality development, etc.
d) Number and Quality of Intervention Programmes (Prevention or promotion
programs that aim to promote behavioural change in defined community
contexts to address social problems) organised.
e) Follow-up Programmes suggested (Referral Services, Bringing Community
Participation)
f) Developing short and mid-term action plans in consultation with local
leadership and local government officers.

The Project Report shall be prepared as per the guidelines given in the Model
Project Report.
The Project Presentation is to be made by the student after he/she reports back
to the LSC. The components for assessment are–

a. Assessing the involvement in the project


b. Presentation skills
c. Final outcome of the project as evinced by the student.

The following are the recommended list of projects for BA, and B.Com
programmes. The lists are not exhaustive and open for additions, deletions and
modifications. LSCs are expected to focus on specific local issues for this kind
of projects. The students are expected to carry out these projects with
involvement, commitment, responsibility and accountability. The mentors of a
group of students should take the responsibility of motivating, facilitating, and
guiding the students. They have to interact with local leadership and people
and appraise the objectives and benefits of this kind of projects. The project
reports shall be placed in the college website for reference. Systematic,
Factual, methodical and honest reporting shall be ensured.

Instructions to Students for Community Service Project

1. It is mandatory for all the students to complete 10 days of Community


Service Project as a part of the First Phase of Apprenticeship (Project)
Between 1st year and 2nd year.
2. Consider yourself as a committed volunteer in the community, you work
with.

3. Every student should identify the village/community/habitation for


Community Service Project (CSP) in consultation with the LSC
Coordinator /the authorized person nominated by the LSC
Coordinator.
4. Report to the community/habitation as per the schedule given by the
LSC. You must make your own arrangements of transportation to
reach the community/habitation.
5. You will be assigned with a supervisor from your LSC. He/She will be
creating a WhatsApp group with your fellow volunteers. Post your
daily activity done and/or any difficulty you encounter during the
programme.
6. You should maintain punctuality in attending the CSP. Daily
attendance is compulsory.
7. You are expected to learn about the community/habitation and their
problems.
8. Know the leaders and the officials of the community/habitation.
9. While in project, always wear your LSC Identity Card.
10. Identify at least five learning objectives in consultation with your
supervisor. These learning objectives can address:
 Information about the community, including the realities and problems
of the society.
 Need for creating awareness on socially relevant aspects/programs.
 Acquiring specific Life Skills.
 Learning areas of application of knowledge and technologies related to
your discipline.
 Identifying developmental needs of the community/habitation.
11. Practice professional communication skills with team members, and
with the leaders and officials of the community. This includes
expressing thoughts and ideas effectively through oral, written, and
non-verbal communication, and utilizing listening kills.
12. Be regular in filling up your Program Book. It shall be filled up in
your own handwriting. Add additional sheets wherever necessary.
13. There shall be an evaluation at the end of the community service project
by the external examiner.

14. Ensure that you do not cause any disturbance to the inhabitants or
households during your inter action or collection of data.
15. Be cordial but not too intimate with the persons you come across
during your service activities.
16. You should understand that during this activity, you are the
ambassador of your College, and your behavior during the community
service programme is of utmost importance.
17. If you are involved in any discipline related issues, you will be
withdrawn from the programme immediately and disciplinary action
shall be initiated.
18. Do not forget to keep up your family pride and prestige of your College.
19. Remember that you are rendering valuable service to the society and your
role in the community development will become part of the history of the
community.

It shall include a brief description of the Community and summary of all the
activities done by the student in CSP and five or more learning objectives
and outcomes.
