Title of Micro-Project:-
1.0 Rationale (Importance of the project, in about 30 to 50words.This is a modified version of the
earlier one written after the work)
A data Communication and Computer networks has been growing with rapid technological progress.
Computer communication through networking becomes essential part of our life. By considering the
importance of networking in day today life, it is essential for students to know the basic concept of
networks like network classification, network topologies network devices. This course deals with the
important concept and techniques related to data communication and enable students to have an
insight in to technology involved to make the network communication possible.
2.0 Course Outcomes Achieved (Add to the earlier list if more Cos are addressed)
Unguided signals can travel in several ways: sky propagation, ground propagation, and
line-of-sight propagation.
The electromagnetic spectrum, ranging from 3 kHz to 900 THz, used for wireless
communication.
The signal is broadcasted through free space (air).

3 AIMS / BENEFITS OF THE MICRO PROJECT
Aim of this project:-
Unguided transmission media are methods that allow the transmission of data
without the use of physical means to define the path it takes. Examples of this
include microwave, radio or infrared..
An unguided transmission sends electromagnetic waves without the need of a physical
medium. As a result, it is sometimes referred to as wireless transmission
Benefits of Project:-
Unguided signals can travel in several ways: sky propagation, ground propagation, and
line-of-sight propagation.
The electromagnetic spectrum, ranging from 3 kHz to 900 THz, used for wireless communication.
The signal is broadcasted through free space (air).
UnGuided Transmission
An unguided transmission transmits the electromagnetic waves without
using anyphysical medium. Therefore it is also known as wireless
transmission.
2. Micowave Communication
3. Satellite Communication
4. Infrared Communication
Radio waves
Radio waves are the electromagnetic waves that are transmitted in all the
directions of free space.
Radio waves are omnidirectional, i.e., the signals are propagated in all the directions.
The range in frequencies of radio waves is from 3Khz to 1 khz.
In the case of radio waves, the sending and receiving antenna are not
aligned, i.e., the wave sent by the sending antenna can be received by any
receiving antenna.
A Radio wave is useful for multicasting when there is one sender and many receivers.
An FM radio, television, cordless phones are examples of a radio wave.
imited bandwidth, but you can enhance this by directional antennas, also with
satellites
eavesdropping, so the communication line isn’t secure, but this can be fixed by
encryption and obfuscation
interference, which can be reduced by spread spectrum and directional antennas,
also by obfuscating the signal
Microwave Communication
It works on the line of sight transmission, i.e., the antennas mounted on the
towers are the direct sight of each other.
Characteristics of Microwave:
Advantages Of Microwave:
Out of phase signal: A signal can be moved out ofphase byusing microwave
transmission.
Susceptible to weather condition: A microwave transmission is susceptible
to weather condition. This means that any environmental change such as
rain, wind can distort the signal.
We can communicate with any point on the globe by using satellite communication.
The satellite accepts the signal that is transmitted from the earth station, and it
amplifies the signal. The amplified signal is retransmitted to another earth station.
Advantages Of Satellite Microwave Communication:
The coverage area of a satellite microwave is more than the terrestrial microwave.
The transmission cost of the satellite is independent of the distance from
the centre of the coverage area
It is used in a wide variety of applications such as weather forecasting,
radio/TV signal broadcasting, mobile communication, etc.
Satellite designing and development requires more time and higher cost.
The Satellite needs to be monitored and controlled on regular periods so
that it remains in orbit.
The life of the satellite is about 12-15 years. Due to this reason, another
launch of the satellite has to be planned before it becomes non-functi
Infrared
An infrared transmission is a wireless technology used for
communication over short ranges.
The frequency of the infrared in the range from 300 GHz to 400 THz.
It is used for short-range communication such as data transfer between two
cell phones, TV remote operation, data transfer between a computer and
cell phone resides in the same closed area.
Characteristics Of Infrared:
It supports high bandwidth, and hence the data rate will be very high.
Infrared waves cannot penetrate the walls. Therefore, the infrared
communication in one room cannot be interrupted by the nearby rooms.
Advantages
Disadvantages
It cannot permeate the barrier.
It cannot use it for long-range communication.
