INTRODUCTION TO MICROSOFT WORD

• Word is a word processing program included in the Microsoft Office.


• The main purpose of using this program is to write various types of texts and print
them from the printer to paper.
• However, thanks to its advanced features, Word can also be used for other purposes
such as creating tables, drawing figures, creating columns, adding images to text etc.

1. TITLE BAR:
Title Bar displays the title of the currently open document or application. Title of document
is name of document which is used at the time of save your file.

2. RIBBON & TABS:


The Ribbon is a user interface element of Microsoft Word. It have 10 tabs; Home, Insert,
Draw, Design, Page layout, References, Mailings, Review and View. Each tab has specific
groups of related commands.
3. HOME TAB:

The Home tab is the default tab in Microsoft Word. Home tab has five groups of related
commands; Clipboard, Font, Paragraph, Styles and Editing. It is helpful for edit document
style, font size, adding bullets etc.

3.1. CLIPBOARD:

• Click the launcher in the lower-right corner of the Clipboard group.

• Select the text or graphics you want to copy, and press Ctrl+C.
• Each selection appears in the Clipboard, with the latest at the top.

• Optionally, repeat step 2 until you've copied all the items you want to use.
• In your document, click where you want to paste the item.

• To paste everything in the Clipboard to the selected area in your document,


click Paste All.
• To clear everything in the Clipboard click Clear All.

FORMAT PAINTER:

Use Format Painter to quickly apply the same formatting, such as color, font style and
size, or border style, to multiple pieces of text or graphics. With format painter, you
can copy all of the formatting from one object and apply it to another one—think of it
as copying and pasting for formatting.
• Select the text or graphic that has the formatting that you want to copy.

• To choose Format Painter:


On the Home tab, select Format Painter in the Clipboard group.

• The cursor changes to a paintbrush icon.


• Use the brush to paint over a selection of text or graphics to apply the formatting.
This only works once. To change the format of multiple selections in your document,
you must first double-click Format Painter.
• To stop formatting, press ESC.
3.2. FONT:
In the font section you can choose a your texts font family, font size also you can change its
highlight color and font color.

3.3. PARAGRAPH:
In this section you can adjust your paragraph alignment by using align left, align right, center
and justify icons. You can create bullets, number or multi-level lists.

Paragraph Alignment:
Paragraph alignment determines how the lines in a paragraph appear in relation to the left and
right margins. The margin is the blank space between the edge of the paper and where the
text.
The easiest way to change paragraph alignment is to use the alignment buttons on the
Formatting toolbar.

You can also use keyboard shortcuts. Ctrl+L= Left Align; Ctrl+R= Right Align; Ctrl+E=
Center; Ctrl+J= Justify.

Line space is the amount of vertical space between lines of text in a paragraph. Line spacing
is typically based on the height of the characters, but you can change it to a specific value. For
example, some paragraphs may be single spaced and some double-spaced. Single-spacing is
Word’s default setting.

Paragraph space is the amount of space above or below a paragraph. Instead of pressing Enter
multiple times to increase space between paragraphs, you can set a specific amount of space
before or after paragraphs.
