CARROM RULE-BOOK

1. Objective:
● The aim of the game is to score the most points by pocketing the Queen and
player pieces.

2. Teams:
● Singles: One player per side.
● Doubles: Two players per side, with each player taking alternate turns.

3. Game Setup:
● The carrom board is placed on a flat surface.
● The striker is placed within the base circle (on or between the two
parallel lines) at the end of the board before each shot.

4. Starting the Game:

● The game begins with the player striking from the base circle to break the
initial arrangement of pieces.

5. Scoring:
● The Queen is worth 3 points.
● Each player piece is worth 1 point.
● The player must pocket the Queen first, followed by a piece of their color in
the same turn to cover the Queen.

6. Turn Rules:
● If the striker pockets the Queen and/or pieces of their color, the player gets
another strike.
● If no pieces are pocketed or a foul is committed, the turn ends.
● Pocketing the Queen and a piece together requires a specific sequence: the
Queen must be pocketed first, followed by a piece of the player’s color to cover
the Queen.

7. Fouls and Penalties:

● If the striker is pocketed, a previously pocketed piece is returned to the board.
● Pocketing only an opponent's piece is a foul and ends the player's turn.
● Pocketing the striker along with the Queen results in both the Queen and
an additional piece being returned to the board.
8. Pieces in Play:
●Pieces standing on their edge or overlapping are left until moved again in
the normal course of play.
●If the striker comes to rest under another piece, the referee will remove it.

9. Additional Fouls:
●If a player accidentally touches any piece on the board, a pocketed piece
of his/ his teams color will be returned to the board.
●If a player plays by placing his striker incorrectly on the ball/the two vertical lines, a
pocketed piece of his/his teams color will be returned to the board.
●During the strike, if a player’s elbow comes above the surface of carrom board, a
pocketed piece of his/his teams color will be returned to the board.
●If a player accidentally moves the carrom board from its initial position, a pocketed
piece of his/his teams color will be returned to the board. If this movement causes
too much of disturbance in pieces positions the opponent wins the round.
●Chat between team-mates is not allowed.
●If a player pockets the queen and all his pieces are still in play, the turn ends, and
the queen is returned to the board.
●If a player pockets the queen and fails to pocket the cover the turn ends, and if the
opponent doesn’t appeal for the queen to be returned to the board. The player
who pocketed the queen gets the points for it.
●THESE ADDITIONAL FOULS ARE ONLY CONSIDERED WHEN THE OPPONENT TEAM
MAKES AN APPEAL. IF THE OPPONENT TEAM FAILS TO MAKE AN APPEAL, THE
GAME CONTINUES.

10. Positioning and Striking:

● The striker must be placed within the base circle before each shot.
● Striking with any part of the hand other than the finger is not allowed.

the opponent wins and points they get are all worth of all the pieces still in play on
the board.
