Learning Strategies and resources To Address Learning gas in

Session Objectives At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
 To establish the importance of teaching reading to students.
 To recognize the correlation of reading fluency to academic performance.
 To explore reading programs and interventions that can be adopted by the school.

Contribution to Workshop Outcome This session provides a better understanding to language teachers on how to address reading gaps
Key Understanding Reading Gap
 is the space that exists between a learner’s ability to convert letters on a page into meaning,
and the projected ability to do that at a given age that was determined by school districts and
governments.
Reading Intervention
 provides additional strategies and activities to boost reading skills in the areas of decoding,
comprehension, and fluency for struggling readers.
Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI)
 it is an assessment tool aimed to be used as a classroom-based assessment tool to
measure and describe students' reading performance.
Link with the Previous Session This session is correlated to the previous session since literacy gap interventions are an integral part in
learners’ learning and development, growth and mastery, and have a ppositive impact on learning which is
anchored on the principles of Deped Order No. 31 s. 2020
Link with the Next Session This session is linked to the next session since closing the literacy gap is part of the teachers’
responsibilities and duties especially in the new normal.
