1.

Explain the Rutherford model of an atom along with its

drawback.

According to the Rutherford atomic model: The positive charge and most
of the mass of an atom is concentrated in an extremely small volume. He
called this region of the atom as a nucleus. Rutherford's model proposed
that the negatively charged electrons surround the nucleus of an atom.

The drawback of Rutherford model is: It can't explain the stability of an

atom. As per the model, the orbital revolution of electrons around the
nucleus is not stable as the revolving electrons in orbits will undergo
acceleration and emit energy.

2. State the law of conservation of mass.

The law of conservation of mass states that in a chemical reaction mass is

neither created nor destroyed. For example, the carbon atom in coal
becomes carbon dioxide when it is burned. The carbon atom changes
from a solid structure to a gas but its mass does not change.

3. Write down the property of colloids.

Colloids show the following properties.

It is a heterogeneous mixture.
The size of colloidal particles is very small.
Their particle size ranges between 1-1000 nanometers.
It shows the Tyndall effect.
It means it scatters the beam of light and shows its path through itself.
They don’t settle down when left undisturbed for some time.
It means colloidal solutions are quite stable.
They cannot be separated by the filtration process.
They can be separated by centrifugation.Colloidal particles show
Brownian movement.

4. Define latent heat.

Latent heat is the amount of energy that's absorbed or released when a

substance changes state, without changing its temperature
5. Differentiate between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
Draw a well labelled diagram of a eukaryotic cell.
6. Write the rules for the electrons present in an atom
according to Bhor's model.
7. Discuss the various factors which affect the rate of
evaporation.
