What does volunteering in Bulgaria mean to me?

My experience about volunteering in Forest tale- project about filmmaking, photo shooting,
writing, culinary and art!

Even though I do not know what the long-term effects of these project will be, I can definitely
say that it have changed me greatly.

It is my belief that the main mission of the Europian solidarity corps was achieved. With
enhanced solidarity between people, respect for each others traditions and cultures, we built a
little community based on the same principles and values that has made me a little more
Europian. Understanding other people's perspectives of events in the world, understanding
their ways of solving problems turned out to be the most interesting part of this project, which
increased my knowledge in social and political life in other countries.

In the end of the project I discovered that I was searching about the geopolitical events we
discussed to learn much more, and this has surprisingly had a positive influence on me.

Not to mention learning about different culinary traditions and cultures. Those national culinary
days affected me a lot. Yes, I thought that Kiselo Mlyako, what we call Matsoni in Georgia, was
entirely a Georgian thing. And it was not the only myth that I believed. I’ve tasted the most
Authentic Carbonara with Guanciale from Italians and listened to Greek Turkish conflict about
origins of food. There is no doubt, that food is the best way to understand a culture, It also
operates as an expression of cultural identity. “Tell me what you eat, and I’ll tell you who you
are.” You can learn a lot about a particular country by exploring their food. It’s always
interesting when you find out some similarities in different cuisines.

And filmmaking- my favorite activity of the project. it was a great chance of learning new things
in the filmmaking process in teamwork, improving my skills in using a camera and editing. The
entire process demonstrated the benefits of teamwork.

In conclusion, I got out of my world and stepped into the world of others. The highlights of the
program were being able to meet such incredible people and lifelong friends. As a solo traveler,
you really do learn who you really are and how to interact and understand people. I felt that
the program took us away from the tourist environment and we behaved more as locals and
were able to explore local life. We learned so much!

I had an amazing time and I can’t wait to explore the world with Volunteering Solutions.
