TEENS ONE FINAL EXAM Paper 2
Time allowed: 1h.15’ (+ List: 1.30’)
SECTION A: Reading Comprehension
Read the text and choose the correct option, true (T) or false (F).

Trinidad
Hi, my name is Maria and I live in Notting Hill in London with my family. My dad’s family is from Trinidad, a
country in the Caribbean. My father misses his family a lot because we moved to London five years ago for his
job. He’s a doctor. I was born in the UK and I am British but I love Caribbean culture. Fortunately, there are a
lot of people here in the UK with connections to Trinidad. We have got friends and family both from the UK and
Trinidad.
Every year, at the end of August, people organize a big carnival- the Notting Hill Carnival. It’s like the carnivals
in Trinidad. Different groups spend at least six months in preparation. They make spectacular costumes, and
practice dances and music. The music is special. It’s steel band and calypso music and it’s originally from my
father’s country. The carnival marches through the streets of London and everyone joins in. Families, friends
and even the police enjoy the dancing. It’s great!
Next year, I am going to participate with my school. I am learning how to dance calypso music and some other
students are learning some recipes such as Callaloo, a typical side dish people usually eat for lunch or dinner.
The students are going to sell the food to get money for a school trip to Trinidad to learn about our past.
