CAUTION

A. Phase Sequence
Phase sequence of these generators are R→Y→B regardless of rotating direction of
prime mover.
Please connect all cables as shown in below figure 1.

B. Manual Synchronizing
Please be careful at synchronizing of each generator during on board test or normal
operating as follows.

1) Check that incoming generator voltage level and frequency in its no-load condition
is correct.
2) After rotating the synchronizing switch to the "ON" position, please check the
condition of the synchroscope pointer, and adjust the speed of the incoming
Engine/Generator until it is rotating slowly to clockwise direction (no more than
1 revolution / 20 seconds).
3) The incoming generator breaker should be closed as close to the 12 o'clock
position as possible.

Warning
If generator breaker is closed at conditions other than the above, the
generator excitation system (Diodes, Varistors, Transformer …) & rotor
or stator can be damaged by transient reactive current.
SPECIFICATION FOR SYNCHRONOUS GENERATOR

The specification describes the three-phase synchronous brushless generator 5000kVA,


11000V, 8pole, 50Hz.

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

1.1 SCOPE OF SUPPLY

1.1.1 ESSENTIALS (PER 1 GENERATOR)


(1) One (1) set of synchronous generator
(2) One (1) Piece of auto voltage regulator with PMG.

1.1.2 ACCESSORIES (PER 1 GENERATOR)


(1) One(1) Unit of Space Heater (1ph, AC240V, 1000W)
(2) Six(6) Pieces of winding temp. detector (PT100ohm x 2 pc/phase)
(3) Two(2) Pieces of bearing temp. detector (PT100ohm x 1 pc/bearing)
(4) Lubrication oil sight-glass for monitoring (as per each bearing)
(5) Two(2) Units of earth terminal
(6) One(1) Unit of main terminal box with cable gland (for 1C-400 sq mm).
(7) One(1) Unit of aux. terminal box with cable gland for control cables

All the materials, design, manufacturing, factory inspection and test shall comply with the following
standards.
- KS (Korea industrial Standard)
- JEM 1354 (Std of the Japan Electrical Manufacturer’s association)
- JEC 114 (Japanese Electro technical Committed)
- IEC 60034-1 (International Electro technical Commission)
- ANSI C50.12 (American National Standard)
- IEEE 115 (Institute of Electrical and Electronics engineers)
Others not covered with above standards shall be subject to manufacturer’s standard

1.3 LANGUAGE AND UNITS


The English and metric system will be used in all drawings, documents and manual.
Warning name plate of main equipment shall be in English and Arabic.

1.4 SITE CONDITIONS


The generators shall be designed in accordance with following site conditions.
1 ) Site Conditions to be corrected as per GTR General.
- Location : Indoor
- Altitude : Below 100 m sea level
- Design temperature : Max. 58℃
- Relative humidity : Max. 100 %

1.5 TEST AND INSPECTION


The test and inspection on the generator shall be carried out in accordance with applicable standard.

1.6 PAINTINGS
All parts of iron surface will be coated with anticorrosive painting in accordance with manufacturer
standard. The finished color of exterior surface is as follows according to customer's request. Unless
otherwise specified, generator will be finally coated : RAL 6021

Generator Enclosure shall be coated with RAL 1015.


2. MECHANICAL SPECIFICATION

2.1 CONSTRUCTION
The generators comprise rotating-filed machines in which the cylindrical rotor carrying the D.C-excited
filed winding and the damper winding rotates inside the stator which carries the A.C output winding.
The generator incorporate A.C exciter and rotating rectifiers mounted on the shaft, which provide the
excitation current for the main machine.

2.2 DEGREE OF PROTECTION


The generator enclosure is designed to comply with degree of protection IP23 (IEC 60034-5).

2.3 COOLING
The cooling of the internally-ventilated generators is in accordance with IEC 60034-6(IC01).
A fan at the drive end draw the cooling air axially through the machine.

2.7 SPEED AND DIRECTION OF ROTATION


The nominal frequency is produced at the rated speed. Unless otherwise stated a speed rise of 5%
when the load reduced from the rated value to zero will be assumed. Direction of rotation is counter
clockwise (C.C.W) viewed from drive end.

2.8 MAIN TERMINAL BOX FOR HIGH VOLTAGE POWER & AUX. TERMINAL BOX FOR LOW

Main terminal box is located on the right side viewed from drive end.

2.9 ANTI-CONDENSATION HEATER
Generator will be provided with AC 240V heater to prevent condensation while the machine is shut
down. Heater will be arranged to provide even distribution of heat.
The leads from the heater will be brought out to clearly labeled terminal.

2.10 OVERSPEED STRENGTH


The generator shall be free from mechanical faults when operated at 120% of rated speed for 2
minutes under no load and non excited condition.

3. ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATION

3.1 INSULATION
Class F insulation is used as a standard feature for the generator.
This protects the winding against corrosive gas, vapour, dust and oil.

3.2 STATOR WINDING


The three phase stator winding is the double-layer type and star connected.
The Four stator lead ends R, Y, B, N and exciter pole connection+F1 and -F2 are brought out to the
cable connection box.

3.3 ROTOR WINDING


The rotor winding is designed as a coil winding in the slots of the cylindrical rotor.
The generator is fitted with a damper winding, i.e. a cage of bars connected by rings, which lie in
special slots in the rotor.

3.4 EXCITING SYSTEM


Self-exciting brushless system with rotary exciter mounted on the generator frame.

3.5 VOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT


The rated voltage can be adjusted in ± 10% using an external panel mounting digital contact
when the power factor is between 0.8 and 1.

3.6 STEADY-STATE VOLTAGE VARIATION


Throughout the range from no-load to rated load at rated power factor and rated speed with nominal
excitation control system including an A.V.R the voltage variation and steady condition is within ±2.5%
of rated voltage.

3.7 INSTANTANEOUS VOLTAGE VARIATION


With a load corresponding to 60%(power factor: less than 0.4) of rated current applied at rated voltage
and frequency, the instantaneous voltage variation factor shall be less than 15% and shall be restored
to -3% of the final voltage with 2 seconds.

3.8 EFFICIENCY
The efficiency allow for the total losses in the generator, including those of the field winding and
excitation system. The values at rated output shall be guaranteed over 96.5% without tolerance.
3.9 OVERLOAD
In accordance with applicable standard, the generator can have an over current of 1.5 times the rated
current at rated voltage for 2 minutes. The generator shall be operated at 110% rated current for one
hour within any 12-hour period at no risk of critical temperature rise.

3.10 WAVEFORM DISTORTION


Waveform shall be closely similar to sine curve at rated voltage and frequency under no load.
Waveform distortion shall be less than 10% in accordance with NEMA MG1.

3.11 TEMPERATURE RISE


Temperature rise at full load and rated power factor.

1) Stator coils : Not to exceed 62℃ by resistance method.


2) Rotor coils : Not to exceed 72℃ by resistance method.
Temperature rise is based on intake air not exceeding 58℃ and altitude not exceeding 1000 meters.

3.12 AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE REGULATION (AVR)


Temperature Rise shall be Limited to

PAINTING PROCEDURE FOR GENERATOR

1. SCOPE
This procedure defines the painting and rust prevention procedure at shop.
But non-ferrous metal will not be painted.

2. SURFACE PREPARATION
2.1 Oil, grease and crayon marks will be cleaned off with solvent solution.
2.2 Shot blast cleaning will be carried out in accordance with provision of
"The steel structure painting council's specification SSPC-SP10/NACE NO.2
blast cleaning(Near White)”.
2.3 The surface profile height is defined as distance between the tops of
the highest peak and lowest adjacent rough, measured in a direction
perpendicular to the mean surface height plane.
2.4 Surface to be coated will be cleaned and dried before coating is applied.
2.5 Rust, weld spatter, mill scale and other surface contaminants will be
removed by the power tools and shot blasting.
2.6 The compressed air used for nozzle blasting will be free from the liquid
water or oil. Adequate separators and driers will be used so as to get
rid of condensation.
2.7 In principle, shot or sand blasting will be done only when the weather
condition allow the surface to remain dry after blasting and coating
for several hours (Min.4 Hours).

3. PROCEDURE
3.1 Detail painting procedures refer to attached data sheet.
3.2 Painting conditions.
3.2.1 The metal temperature shall be minimum 3 deg. C above the dew point temperature.
Air temperature : 5 ~ 40 deg. C
Air relative humidity : less than 85%

3.3 Related conditions


No paintings shall be applied outdoor when it is foggy, rainy or excessive
wind. If chemical contamination occurs in paint it should be removed
by washing with water or solvent before painting.

4. APPLICATION DETAILS
4.1 Preparation of paintings
Paintings should be prepared for application according to the instructions.
Individual components of multi-component paintings must be stirred before
mixing. If the thinner is required, only designated thinner should be used
and thinning rate may be adjusted according to the job condition.
4.2 Application method
4.2.1 Airless spray may be most effective in obtaining specified thickness at once.
4.2.2 Keep the spray gun at constant distance and perpendicular to the surfaces.
4.2.3 Brush or roller should not be used. Required thickness shall be achieved by applying
several coats at indoor. No outdoor painting shall be allowed.
4.3 Application work
4.3.1 Welding seams, corners and edges should always receive a stripe coat
before full coating in order to obtain adequate film built.
4.3.2 Bolt jointing surroundings and flange matching faces should be blanked
off or otherwise protected from painting unless otherwise accepted.
4.3.3 Special care should be taken to gain uniform thickness.
4.3.4 Each coat should be allowed enough to dry and interval between coats.
4.4 Cleaning of tools
The application tools and equipments should be cleaned with the thinner
immediately after use.

5. INSPECTION
Before painting, the surfaces shall be inspected as following items.
- Surface cleaning as per SSPC SP1
- Surface preparations as per SSPC-SP10/NACE No.2
- Environmental condition (Air temperature, Air relative humidity)
After painting, the surfaces shall be inspected visually for wrinkle, swelling
and other harmful defects. Also the dry film thickness shall be measured according to SSPC PA2.
If repair coating is required, applicable surfaces shall be arranged by sand
paper and re coated with the same paint. Also repairing shall be in compliance with paint manufacturer
recommendation.

6. COATING REPAIR
6.1 Defective paint work will be removed, and the surface re-prepared and
repainted according to the original specifications.
6.2 Damaged parts on the coated surface will be cleaned by power tool and
touch-up with the same coating system as applied initially.

7. STORAGE OF PAINT
The storage area should be well ventilated and protected from sparks, flame,
direct exposure to sun or excessive heat, preferably located in isolated room.
Storage place shall have a temperature ranging from 10 to 40 deg.C.

1.2.1 Method of test
1) Stator(line-to-line) and rotor winding resistance of one(1) generator will be measured
by volt-ampere method at cold and hot condition.
2) The resistance of other generators will be measured at cold condition.
1.2.2 Acceptance criteria & tolerance
1) Less than ±5% each phase unbalance

1.3 Voltage balance test


1.3.1 Method of test
1) Under no-load, the rated voltage and the rated speed, line & phase voltage will be
measured.
1.3.2 Acceptance criteria & tolerance
1) 1 % in phase voltage unbalanced.

1.4 Checking the exciter field current


1.4.1 Method of test
1) Exciter field current shall be checked at no load with normal voltage and frequency
on the generator

1.5 Voltage adjustment range with voltage regulator

1) The generator voltage shall be verified whether it is adjusted at the range of 90% -
110% of the rated voltage under no load condition & rated speed.

1) The generator should be operated for 120 seconds with 150% of the rated current.

1.7.1 Method of test
1) Over speed test shall be carried out for 120 seconds with 1.2 times the rated speed
under no exitation condition.

1.8 High voltage test (Armature and Field winding)


1.8.1 Method of test
1) Test voltage shall have the value given in table 3 and shall be applied between
winding of generator and earth.
2) The test shall be started at voltage less than one third of the test voltage
and then the voltage shall be increased slowly below 80% of test voltage.
3) The test voltage should be kept continuously for one minute.

1.9 Insulation resistance test


1.9.1 Method of test
1) The measurement shall be carried out before and after high voltage test.
2) Insulation resistance will be measured between the generator winding and earth
by 5000V (For stator winding) & 500V megger (For rotor winding)

3) Electronic circuit and elements should be disconnected during the test in order
to avoid any damage.

1) In the generator condition with rated revolution and open-circuit, the terminal

voltage and field current will be measured.

1.11.1 Method of test
1) In the generator condition with the rated revolution and short-circuit, the stator
looses on current will be measured.

1.12 Calculation of efficiency (Measurement of separate losses)


1.12.1 Method of test
1) The generator will be operated with the rated current by segregation of IEEE 115.
2) Efficiency will be evaluated by all losses in accordance with estimation by test
result in short circuit characteristic & no load saturation test.
1.12.2 Acceptance criteria & tolerance
1) In accordance with spec. : Acceptance generator efficiency 96.5% at the
rated load and the rated power factor.

1.13 Temperature rise test


1.13.1 Method of test
1) The generator shall be operated with rated current according to IEEE 115.
2) Temperature rise test shall be carried out until the temperature is saturated for
one (1) generator as per type test, others generators shall be carried out for
about one(1) hour in order to confirm the trend of temperature rise.
2) Temperature rise of stator winding and rotor winding shall be measured by
by resistance method.
1.13.2 Acceptance criteria & tolerance
1) For stator winding : Not exceed 62K
2) For rotor winding : Not exceed 72K (Based on ambient 58 ℃)

1.14 Harmonic analysis


1.14.1 Method of test
1) Under no-load, the rated voltage and the rated speed, the total harmonic distortion
(THD) of the line-to-line terminal voltage shall be measured by frequency analizer.
2) From the measured values, the THD shall be computed according to IEC60034-1.
1.14.2 Acceptance criteria & tolerance
1) THD shall not exceed 5%.

1.15 Sudden short circuit test (Determination of reactance)


1.15.1 Method of test
1) The generator shall be operated at rated speed on no-load.
2) The three phase terminals of generator shall be suddenly short-circuited
at reduced voltage (app. 30% of rated voltage) according to IEC 60034-4-40.
3) The unsaturated values of X"d shall be obtained.
1.15.2 Acceptance criteria : Within -30% and +30% of below specified
unsaturated values.
* Unsaturated values : X"d = 13.2 %

1.16 Sustained three phase short circuit test


1.16.1 Method of test
1) After power circuit are shorted with no excitation, giving excitation while running
at rated revolution, the generator with excitation systems have to withstand the
the sustained short circuit current for 2 seconds.

1) No electrical damage

1.17 Measurement of No-load vibration


1.17.1 Method of test
1) This test will be carried out under no-load condition with rated voltage and
rated frequency.
2) The measuring point shall be bearing of non-drive end and drive sides for
X, Y and Z axis.
1.17.2 Acceptance criteria & tolerance
1) Less than 2.3mm/s-rms in accordance with IEC60034-14.

1.18 Inertia test


1.18.1 Method of test
1) Under no-load, the rated voltage & the rated frequency, the generator is to be
operated up to 105~110% of rated speed and the input power is to be turned off.
2) At the point of 95% of rated speed, the speed & the time is to be checked
while the speed is slowly decreased by fly-wheel effect.
3) The moment of inetia is calculated form the retardation test with the equation:

1) AVR and the boosting module shall be adjusted under no-load and rated current with

1.22 Measurement of noise level


1.22.1 Method of test
1) With the generator driven at its rated speed at no-load and giving its rated voltage,
noise level of the generator shall be measured with sound level meter.
2) It is desirable to select the place and method such that the sound reflection is small
as far as possible.
3) The measurement shall be made at 4 points 1M apart from both sides and both
shaft ends of generator respectively at the height of shaft center.
4) The noise level of the motor shall be obtained by the mean value of each points.
5) when the difference between synthesized noise and the background noise is more
than 10 dB, the effect of background noise may be neglected. When the difference
is less than 10 dB, the effect of background noise shall be calculated by correcting
in the following table.
