Module 5 - OBA 5

Teaching is not an easy profession. It is noble and requires a dedicated, passionate,


and selfless individual since the welfare of other, particularly the students should be
prioritizing in this profession. In addition, other standards and responsibilities is trusted in
the hand of the educator. As someone taking Education Course in college, I am not totally
sure if the person I am now is suited for teaching. However, I am confident that this
profession is my calling. Therefor, I will do my best in becoming a person suited for this
noble profession by using this college opportunity to learn, understand, and put into
practice the characteristics, ethics, and values an educator must possess.

Some of these ethics I am aware that a teacher should possess is behaving with
honor and dignity in order to maintain a positive social recognition. For this purpose, a
way for a teacher to represent this kind of behavior is wearing appropriate clothing in work
and even in public. When in duty, teachers have uniforms that they can wear which
depends in the school they are teaching at. On other hand, when off work, teachers wear
their casual clothes that they prefer. However, it is important that the clothes an educator
should wear even when not working shall be appropriate. They should avoid wearing
indecent and scandalous clothing.

It is also important that an educator must know how to act properly in their private
and professional life. An educator should be respectful and disciplined as a person. They
should show respect to themselves and to other people, additionally, should be discipled
and should act on what is right, both their personal and professional life. However, in
addition when it comes for their careers, a teacher should be dedicated in educating their
students with highest quality as possible since they are a factor leading the youth to
success in the future.
Also, part of being an educator is meeting the parents of their students. When this
occurs, an educator shall treat them with courtesy, such as showing respect. Likewise, a
teacher themselves shall act properly to be worthy of the respect and recognition of the
student’s parents. Teachers should also professionally discuss the condition of the students
to the parents in order for them to know the progress and deficiencies of their child, for
them to provide more support.

These ethics are only some that I know, and I am heavily aware that I shall possess
as a future educator as well. It is important that a teacher practice such ethics in order to
maintain a positive reputation which builds trust among the educator, companions,
students, parents, and the community. It is impossible to educate students about behavior
and values if the one who educates doesn’t also practice what they teach. It creates this so-
called bandwagon effect where the students replicate the negative behavior instead.
Therefor, it is significant that an educator should know how to act properly both personal
and professional life to set as a good role model for the youth they are educating and to
other people who recognizes and be inspired of their way of life.
