1. What is a bit?
Answer- A single binary digit (0, 1) is considered as a bit. Bit is the smallest amount of data in a
computer.
2. What is machine language?
Answer-A machine language consists of binary digits (0, 1). A computer understands and stores,
data and information in the form of machine language (0, 1).
3. What is Computer memory?
Answer- A storage space where data and instructions are stored either for processing or for further
uses is called computer memory.
4. What is storage capacity?
Answer- The maximum amount of data that can be stored in a computer is called its storage
capacity.
5. Describe cache memory.
Answer- Cache memory is an extremely fast memory that acts as a buffer between RAM and the
CPU.

1. What is Primary Memory? Describe RAM and ROM.
Answer- A Primary memory is also known as the main memory or internal memory of a computer.
RAM – Random Access memory holds the data and instructions on which computer is currently
working.
ROM- Read Only Memory information can only be read from this type of memory. Once data is
written on ROM, it cannot be changed or altered.
2. Describe Secondary memory.
Answer- A secondary memory is also called auxiliary memory or external memory. It stores the
large amount of data permanently until someone deletes it purposely.
3. Define the following:
a. Hard disk – A hard disk is a type of magnetic secondary storage media. It is the main secondary
storage for the computers. It can store up to 2TB to 5TB data.
b. Pen drive – It is also known as flash drive. It is portable and used to store large amount of
information. It can store 1GB to 256GB.
c. CD – It is a type of secondary storage media. It is circular in shape and small in size. It can store
around 700MB data.

1. What is an operating system software?
Answer- An operating system is a set of programs which acts as an interface between user and
hardware.
2. Define booting.
Answer- The process of loading the operating system into computer’s main memory when a
computer is switched ON is called booting.
3. What are icons?
Answer- Small picture on the desktop that represents a file, folder or application are called icons.
4. How do you add an application tile to the start menu?
Answer- Right click on any application and select pin to start.
5. What you do to adjust the system volume?
Answer- Click the symbol, denoting a speaker. A slider appears, move the slider left or right to
raise and lower the volume.

1. Describe any two components of the Windows 10 desktop.
Answer- Icons – Small picture on the desktop that represents a file, folder or application are called
icons.
Taskbar- The horizontal bar located at the bottom of the desktop is called the taskbar.

Answer- Distinguish between wallpaper and screen saver-
Wallpaper -A background image of a desktop is called desktop background or wallpaper.
Screen Saver- When a computer is in an idle state, a moving image appears on the screen, called
screen saver.
3. What is taskbar? Write steps to hide it.
Answer- The horizontal bar located at the bottom of the desktop is called the taskbar.
Steps to hide taskbar-
Step 1, Right click on the empty area of the taskbar.

3. Define quick access toolbar.
Answer- Quick access toolbar is located extreme left of the title bar. It holds various frequently
used buttons such as save, undo, redo etc.
4. Which method is used to move the text in a document?
Answer- 1. Cut and Paste

5. What is a clipboard?
Answer- The clipboard is a section of RAM where the computer stores copy data.

Answer- Microsoft Word is the most popular typing program used all over the world. It allows
you to type, edit and format text document. Five elements of word interface are-
i. Title bar- The title bar is located at the top of the window. It shows the name of application.
ii. Quick Access- Quick access toolbar is located extreme left of the title bar. It holds various
frequently used buttons such as save, undo, redo etc.
iii. Tab- Tab are placed below the title bar. The contain various commands that are used to
work in word.
iv. Ribbon- A Ribbon appears when you click any tab.
v. Scroll Bar- Scroll bar are used to view the hidden part of the document.
2. What is the difference between ‘save’ and ‘save as’ options?
