Internet configuration process for the student dormitories of

Studierendenwerk Thüringen in Weimar

For computer which use Microsoft Windows 11 as operating system

#1 Connect the LAN cable to the left input of your socket and to your PC. Follow the file path
on your PC:
"Start" (Windows button) → Search field → enter "Control Panel" → “Network and Internet”
→ "Network and Sharing Center" → "Change adapter settings".
#2 Search for your LAN-connection. It is maybe named as „LAN connection“ or „Ethernet 2“.
#3 Open the settings of your LAN connection by right-clicking on "LAN Connection" or
"Ethernet 2" and select "Properties". Now the following window occurs:

#4 Tick "Internet protocol, version


4 (TCP/IPv4)" and untick "Internet
protocol, version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" if
necessary. Also set the checkmark
again if the correct element is
already ticked. Only by doing this
the field "Properties" becomes
active.

#5 Click „Properties“.

#7 Fill in the fields
according to the picture on
the right.

#8 Then click "Advanced…" at the bottom right.

#9 Go to the window „DNS“.

#10 Check the order of the DNS server address usage according to the screenshot. Tick the
"Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes" and "Append parent suffixes of the
primary DNS suffix".

#11 Enter „stw.uni-weimar.de“ in the field


„DNS suffix for this connection”.

#12 Finally, click "OK".


Now you are done and your LAN connection is working!

For Computer which use MAC OS as operating system
#1 Connect the LAN cable to the left input of your socket and to your PC.
#2 Go to the network settings on your PC. The network settings of the LAN connection (or
Ethernet or Ethernet 2) can be found in the Apple menu under System Preferences / Network.
#3 Select "Ethernet". To make settings here, you may need to unlock the settings screen by
clicking on the lock icon below and entering the administrator password.

#4 Set "Configure IPv4" to "Manual".


#5 Fill in the fields according to the screenshot above.
Your IP address starts with "141.54.". It is followed by a three-digit number S, the subnet
corresponding to your dormitory. You can find this number in the table below. This is followed
by your host number, a one-, two- or three-digit number H, which you received from INFOtake.

#6 Click „Further options“.


#7 Click on the "DNS" sheet. Then click the plus symbol (+) at IPv4 or IPv6 address and the
plus symbol (+) at search domains.
#8 Enter the two servers "141.54.100.129" and "141.54.1.3" as DNS servers. Enter "stw.uni-
weimar.de" as the search domain.

#9 Finally, click on "OK".


Now you are done and your LAN connection is working!

Setting up a router

#1 Connect the LAN cable to the left input of your socket and to your router.
#2 Connect your PC to the router network or use another LAN cable to connect PC and router.
#3 Go to the router menu. You can find this page in your internet browser either by entering
the IP address of your router (to be found under: input field on PC "cmd" -> "ipconfig/all" for
MAC OS “ifconfig/all) or under the brand specific website, e.g. Fritzbox: http://fritz.box, TP-
Link: http://tplinkwifi.net.
#4 Username and password in the login process are often "admin" unless it is written on the
router, or both must be assigned when using it for the first time.
#5 Go to the connection or internet settings in the router menu. For Fritz Box routers, the file
path looks like this, for example: Internet -> Access data -> Other providers -> Change
connection settings.
#6 Click on e.g. "Use the following IP address" or set IP address "manually".
#7 Fill in the following data:
IP address: Your IP address starts with "141.54.". It is followed by a three-digit
number S, the subnet corresponding to your dormitory. You can find
this number on the next page. This is followed by your host number, a
one-, two- or three-digit number H, which you received from INFOtake.

! If an input is not recognized, try to use a three-digit notation with 0, e. g.
„141.054.167.012“

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.000


Default gateway: 141.054.S.254
Preferred DNS-Server: 141.54.100.129
(Primary DNS-Server)
Alternate DNS-Server: 141.54.1.3
(Secondary DNS-Server)

#8 Finally, click "OK", "Apply entry", log out or reconnect to your router.
Now you've done it and your Internet connection is working!

Example for the configuration of TP-Link Archer-C6
#1 Connect the LAN cable to the left input of your socket and to your router.
#2 Connect your PC to the router network or use another LAN cable to connect PC and router.
#3 Go to the router menu http://tplinkwifi.net.
#4 Choose a password.

#5 Log in with your password.

#6 Choose the right time zone.

#7 Click „Static IP“.

#8 Enter the IP information according to your host and dormitory
(see step 7 page 6).

#9 Here you can set WLAN name and WLAN password.

#10 Click „Save“.

#11 Click „Finish“.

The configuration is complete, the router is connected to the Internet.
