2.5 SPINDLE SPECIFICATIONS

CAUTION
The calculated life of the spindle under normal operating conditions is
approximately 10000 hours when performing operation involving maximum
continuous rotation.
However, the actual life is dependent on machine usage conditions, including
factors such as cutting load and transmission of heat generated during
machining. Depending on how the machine is used, the spindle may be
damaged in a relatively short period of time.
The spindle warranty period is limited by that of the machine.

2.5.2 Notes on the Spindle

If the spindle motor accelerates and decelerates frequently, the temperature can rise rapidly even with low
cutting load. The following table shows the maximum acceleration/deceleration frequencies at which the
spindle can run continuously without causing the spindle motor to overheat:

Spindle specification Acceleration/deceleration frequency *

Standard spindle 12 times/minute
High-torque spindle 12 times/minute
High-torque spindle (high-power specification) 13 times/minute
High-acceleration spindle 14 times/minute
High-acceleration spindle (high-power specification) 16 times/minute
Tapping spindle 25 times/minute
High-speed spindle 3 times/minute
High-speed spindle (high-power specification) 5 times/minute
* Continuous acceleration/deceleration (between 0 min-1 and maximum rotation speed) only

NOTE
• If the ambient temperature of the machine is high, or if the cooling ability of the
cooling fan drops, the machine may overheat even below the
acceleration/deceleration frequencies above.
• If there is a possibility that the cooling ability of the spindle motor cooling fan has
dropped, ensure that the cooling fan is normally running. If the fan is dirty, clean
the cooling fan and spindle motor cooling paths, and the fan on the side of the
spindle motor (high-acceleration spindle, high-speed spindle). Refer to
MAINTENANCE OF SPINDLE MOTOR in “MAINTENANCE MANUAL” for
details on the cleaning method.
• If running machining programs with frequent operations which involve Z-axis
acceleration and deceleration such as tapping, drilling, or tool change, an
overheat alarm or OVC alarm may occur in order to protect the Z-axis servo
motor from overheating. If the above alarms occur for the Z-axis servo motor
during continuous operation, set time to exhaust Z-axis servo motor heat in the
machining program such as by adding dwell time.
Furthermore, by selecting [ACCURACY ADJUSTMENT] - [Machine Operation
Setting] from the home screen and increasing the [Tool Weight] setting ([2 kg]
[3 kg], etc.), and by changing [Power Saving Mode] to [ON], Z-axis acceleration
and deceleration is eased, and Z-axis servo motor heat generation can be
suppressed, leading to longer cycle time. When using the machine to perform
continuous operation, ensure that the above alarms are not occurring for the
Z-axis servo motor beforehand.
