It's a mystery FOKUS SKILLS Main : Reading Complimentary : Writing Main: 3.2 Understand a variety of linear and non-linear print and digital texts by using appropriate reading strate CONTENT STANDARDS Complementary: 2.1 Communicate simple information intelligibly Main: 3.2.2 Understand specific information and details of simple longer texts LEARNING STANDARDS Complementary: 2.1.1 Give detailed information about themselves and others By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils will be able: LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Understand specific information and details of simple longer texts 2. Give detailed information about themselves and others Pupils can: SUCCESS CRITERIA 1. Read and look at the information to answer the questions 2. Reflect on the information and discuss persistence. LANGUAGE / GRAMMAR Functional language: Giving opinion (I think he was a police officer) Questions with should FOCUS (e.g. What should you do if…?) Pre-lesson:- 1. Pre-Lesson Task 9: Memory Chain - Review the topic of detectives and mysteries Lesson development:- 2. Pupils read the text, look at the pictures and categorise the items. (Activity 1) 3. Pupils read and look at the information to answer the questions. (Activity 2) 4. Pupils think about the questions and try to work out the answer based on the information. (Activity 3) (HOTS) 5. Pupils exchange their answers and discuss. (Activity 4) (21stCA) ACTIVITIES 6. Pupils read and answer the questionnaire ‘How persistent are you?’ in the Workbook, p.107. When they are finished, have them compare their answers with a partner. (CBA) 7. Pupils read out the information and the tips in the box (learning to learns). Pupils reflect on and discuss persistence. Have them share their scores from Step 6 as a class. Talk more to pupils about the importance of being persistent to achieve a goal in life and at school. CONTENT STANDARDS Complementary: 4.3 Communicate with appropriate language form and style for a range of purposes in print and digital media Main: 1.2.2 Understand with support specific information and details of very simple phrases and sentences. LEARNING STANDARDS Complementary: 4.3.2 Spell familiar high frequency words accurately. 1. LANGUAGE / GRAMMAR Numbers 11-20 FOCUS / VOCABULARY Pre-lesson Make circles of ten pupils and make a ball out of paper for each group. Hand a ball to a pupil. He/she says One and then throws the ball to a student who says Two. Lesson Delivery 1. Pupils look at the pictures in the Student’s Book. 2. Play the recording twice (CD2 15). Pupils listen and repeat. 3. Use the flashcards to practice the numbers. 4. Show them first in sequence and then at random and elicit the numbers from pupils. 5. Pre-teach shopping list. 6. Tell pupils they are going to hear a conversation between a waiter and a cook. ACTIVITIES 7. Stick the food flashcards on the board. 8. Play the recording (CD2 16). Pupils listen for foods. 9. Play the recording again. Pupils complete the list. 10. They compare answers in pairs before class check. (21st CA) 11. Pupils work individually to complete a shopping list for lunch. They write six items. 12. In pairs, pupils take turns to say their complete list for their friend to try to write it down. 13. Teacher distributes worksheet. (CBA) 14.
