NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL VALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT PROJECT – KISUMU COUNTY

RECRUITMENT OF AGRIPRENEURS IN KISUMU COUNTY – COHORT II

203 positions (7 per ward)

NAVCDP is a five-year initiative between the Government of Kenya and World Bank and is being
implemented in 33 counties including Kisumu. The project development objective is “to increase market
participation and value addition for targeted farmers in select value chains across 33 implementing
Counties”.

The Project builds on the strong foundation laid by NARIGP and KCSAP to transform the agriculture
sector by focusing on smallholder farmers either “in transition” or just “transited” from subsistence to
commercial farming. The transformative interventions will target 5 value chains (Poultry, Dairy, Cotton,
Tomatoes, and Rice) prioritized by farming communities in Kisumu County.

The project will rely on agriprenuers (agri-entreprenuers) to offer last-mile bundled extension services
(advisory and information for agricultural productivity; market linkages; farmer financial inclusion; data
analytics and agricultural intelligence) to beneficiaries after undergoing an intensive mentorship and
incubation program. The agriprenuer model will be rolled out to all Kisumu wards in phases. The 1st
phase targeted 6 wards where KCSAP was implemented (Kolwa East, Awasi/ Onjiko, East Kano/
Wawidhi, North Nyakach, Central Nyakach & West Nyakach).

The 2nd phase will target the remaining 29 wards: Nyakach (South East Nyakach & South West
Nyakach); Nyando (Ahero, Kobura, & Kabonyo Kanyagwal); Seme (West Seme, North Seme, East
Seme, & Central Seme); Muhoroni (Masogo/ Nyang’oma, Muhoroni/ Koru, Chemelil, Ombeyi, &
Miwani); Kisumu West (Central Kisumu, South West Kisumu, North Kisumu, West Kisumu, & North
West Kisumu); Kisumu East (Kolwa Central, Kajulu, Nyalenda A, & Manyatta B); and Kisumu Central
