CHAPTER 1

THE GENERAL INTRODUCTION

1-1 Introduction:
Violence against a student can be defined as a physical force exerted
for the purpose of violating or abusing , the act or an instance of violent
action or behavior of the school against the student .Abuse or injury to
the meaning ,content or intention ,violence of feeling or expression .The
violence or school behavior against the student affects the aptitude to
learn and study, the student loses interests in the study , the abuse
physical and emotional violence making the process of education more
complex for students in attending classes and even trying to understand
the courses they are involved in their studies .The purpose of this study is
to identify the reasons for practicing violence or school behavior against
the student , the extent of their impact on the educational process of
students and finally how to deal with such phenomena .
Therefore, this study identifies the reasons for practicing violence or
school behavior against the student, the extent of their impact on the
educational process of students and finally how to deal with such
phenomena .in order to answer this question the researchers need to
conduct small-scale research.
1-2 Significance:

The importance of the study emanates from the importance of the

phenomenal violence which is one of the top problems that threatens the
mental and physical health. As you know the school is the second
embrace after family to the student, and the place that should give feeling
safe, despite the negative effects of violence in the community.
Unfortunately, with increase violence at schools, the researcher notices

some problems that appear as failure and dropout. Therefore, the
researcher in this study will give clear ideas, reasons, results and find
some solutions that may help to limit this problem.

1-3 Research objectives:

a) The study is going to identify the reasons for practice violence

against students.
b) To investigate the results of perpetration violence against students.
c) It aims to recognize the nature of violence that students are exposed
to by teachers.
d) Try to reach some solutions to use another useful method of
teaching.

1-4 Research hypothesis:

a) It is assumed that that violence perpetration at Al- Garba School

might be due to:
i. A combination of school and community factors.
ii. The lack of awareness and knowledge of how to deal with
students in many ways instead of violence.
iii. The wrong behavior of the students.
b) 2. It has expected that the teacher can be the main player, especially
who personally approve of using violence to show power.

1-5 Research Questions:

a) What are the reasons for practice violence against students?

b) What are the results of perpetration violence against students in Al-
Dhale’e city?

c) How dose we can recognize the nature of violence that students are
exposed to by teachers?
d) What do you suggest to reduce the forms of violence against
students?
e) What is the useful method of teaching that help to reduce this
problem?

1-6 Statement of study:

In all societies, the school is the second home of all the child , where the
child spends most of the day ,not only to collect educational information
or to save the curriculum ,but it's the place where the child practices
his/her personality and interact with all the data and the environment
around him/her including the characters around him/her and how to treat
them . The school is not only an educational institution but a pedagogical
and educational institution, where a safe and a proper environment must
be provided to contain and a fertile educational environment, but in
most. Al-Dhaka’s governorate schools including Al Garba School where
this research was conducted, students are exposed to an abusing , Violent
action or behavior of school against students physically and
psychologically that lead to a negative effect of the educational process at
both levels physical and psychological for students. Through this
research , the researcher seeks in the nature of such practices and
phenomenon's and it's results as well as finding out solutions to improve
the pedagogical and educational process to provide a safe and sound
environment for students.

1-7 Delimitation of Research:

This study limits itself; the study is going to limit itself only to the primary
of stages, at Al-Garba school where the researcher lives, during the
second semester of the year 2021 – 2022.

1-8 Definitions the Terms of study:

These are some technical terms that this study deal with them:

 Violence: it can be defined as the use of physical forces so as injure,

abuse, damage, or destroy
 Violence against a student: it can be defined as a physical force
exerted for the purpose of violating or abusing, the act or an
instance of violent action or behavior of the school against the
student. In other words, it can be defined as: Any kind of antisocial
behavior which is punishable by law as well as community.
 Phenomena: it can be defined as something that is observed to
occur or to exist. it is simply facts or event that can be o observed
with senses.
 The Ethical concept: Each behavior contradicts with the natural law
of morality (Abo Alian, 2016).
 A behavior: is all the verbal, physical actions of a human being,
which may be negative or positive.

1-9 The Methodology of the study:

The subject of this study will be collected from several sources for the
purposes of this research; from teachers and students in the primary
stages at Al - Garba School, books, articles and the results of the other
researchers. The researcher is going to use some techniques that involve

interview and observation among around 12 teachers and 150 students.
But, the sample of this study consists of 6 teachers 15 students.

According to this study, the researcher begins with the observation which
is used to recognize the nature of violence that students are exposed to
and focus on the processes that teachers use during the teaching. Then
the researcher takes interviews by helping both of the teachers and
students, where they will be asked some questions related to this study
orally, in order to know their opinion about the topic of the research, then
their answers will be analyzed to get final conclusions of this study.

1-10 The structure of the study:

The research consists of four chapters, the first chapter is the proposal of
the study. Chapter two is the related review of literature which explains
that what the previous studies had said about the related
subject ,whereas chapter three is a practical part of the research , this
chapter concludes data sources, data , data collection , and data analysis,
it shows that how data was collected ,research procedure ,and research
instruments. The fourth chapter is the last part of the research, it
concludes of discussion, suggestion, conclusion, and recommendations.

CHAPTER II

LITERATURE REVIEW

This chapter provides a review of literature about the topic of this

study. Exstudies are related closely to the subject of crime and
delinquency’s problems.

2-1 Related review of literature:

Reality the researcher didn’t find any previous studies at Al-Dhala’a

faculty of education that discuss the same subject “violence against
student “but there many studies in internet. From the studies that the
researcher depended on them in this study, the study of Perry (2005)
believed that physical violence against children can make children scared
and helpless ,and look at the world around them with fear . Their
behavior becomes aggressive, forcing them to threaten and attack other
children . They become disaffected and isolated from others, making
them think that they cannot change any aspect of their lives. Noro
Psikiyatr Ars (2016) pointed out that they teachers and the school staff
have important effects on the development of psychological and social
skills of children. Al’ aswad Yaqub and Mansuri Noor Aldiyn (2015/2014)
explained that there is a relationship between teacher’s violence and
student’s achievements from the teachers’ point of view, and symbolic
violence is one of the most violent forms of violence that comes from
teachers’ side which leads to low achievements of students. Mohammed
Mustafa Abu Alia (2001) talked about the effect of violence on students’
feeling of worry and their adaptation to school.

DATA AND DATA COLLECTION

3.1 Introduction

This chapter aims to highlight on the sources of data and how it was
collected. Also, it will explain the analysis of that data. Furthermore, this
chapter is going to deal with interpretation of the data collection.

3.2 Data Sources:

3.2.1 The Primary Data:

The researcher depends essentially on their background, and the students

and answer of specific questions of at Al Garba School.

3.2.2 The Secondary Data:

The researcher gained these data from books, articles and the result of
other researchers, and the teachers’ answers of specific questions at Al
Garba School.

3.3 Data collection:

The data collection tools as observation and interviews were designed to

identify the main causes, results of perpetration violence.
3.4 Population of the study

The present study was conducted in Al Garba School involving the

students and teachers during the years 2021-2022.
3.5 Sample of the study.

The investigation was carried out on a sample of this study in Al

Garba School at Al-Dhale’e city. They were randomly selected by a various

percentage for each of them according to the total-number and gender of
each of them.
The researcher choose twelve (12) students as a sample for this
study were selected from the total population of the study. The sample
were selected randomly from the students of Al Garba School on whom
the interview was made.
twelve students were representative of the total-number of
participants

3.6 Data Analysis

The data had analyzed by calculating and estimating the answers. The
statements reflected responses had given to each question.

3.6.1 Teachers' interviews:

According to this technique, which was conducted among six teachers.

The researcher has found that 62% of the teachers with and the 38% of
them against of perpetration violence, and all of them have their own
reasons.

 The reasons of Teachers who are against violence:

1. beating is a very unsuccessful method that affects a student's
psychology on the long term
2. The beating is the means that show the weakness of the teacher, a
miserable attempt to impose the prestige of the teacher in front of a
small student
3. beating which causes a lot of problems that continues into
adolescence, making the student create a shaky personality without
confidence
4. Violence does not work because the more violence the teacher uses,
the harder the student becomes
5. Violence leads to violence
 The reasons of Teachers who are with violence:
1. Violence is as a necessary method, so that students would learn and
behave appropriately.
2. Students deserve punishment for misbehavior or academic failure
3. There's not a suitable away except this method.
3.6.2 Students' interviews

According to the results of the interviews with fifteen students, it can be

seen that there are many impacts which violence affects students. The
following are details:

1) Causes a lot of embarrassed to the student in front of his peers
2) Causes the decline of the student's study clearly
3) Aversion to the teacher because he is the source of fear followed by
hatred of the material he is studying
4) Provide the student with a weak image of himself , prompting him
to compensate for practicing control with those who are weaker
than him
5) Frustration, suppression of the student and the production of
personal introverted
6) A large gap between the student and the teacher
7) Aversion to the idea of education and school .

3.6.3 Observation:

According to what we have achieved by observing the violent behavior of

the teacher, we have been able to collect some points that explain the
reasons and methods of using violence physically and psychologically,
reasons and methods of violence are summarized in the following:

 Reasons of using violence against student:

1- The misconception of some teachers that the bossy teacher is the

teacher who achieves the level of scientific and educational efficiency
together.
2- The student's disregard for the subject and teacher or the teacher's
keenness on his subject, which makes him angry to who disrupts or who
riot in his share.
3- The intensity of the classrooms.
4- The teacher's poor economic situation and his general mood.

3.7 The methods of violence:

3.7.1. Collective punishment:

Collective punishment is basically school administrators and teachers'

behavior that used to peer pressure to bully or guilt kids into behaving .
School should be promoting personal responsibility in the individual
among the students, not following peers in a group and not punishing the
students for other's actions.

3.7.2 Corporal punishment:

The using of corporal punishment of children in order to control the

students' behavior in classroom and school's compass. It was observed
that students who exposed to corporal punishment (slapping, pinching,
hitting with a stick) had a lower receptive vocabulary, lower executive
functioning, and lower intrinsic motivation.

3.7.3 Psychological and mental violence:

It is an emotional abuse against the student by the school's administration

and teachers like mockery, the threat of failure, discrimination in
treatment between students, and aggression and harsh perception in
order to control the students or promote their performance.

CHAPTER FOUR

CONCLUSION

The researcher, in this chapter conclude the results that were found in
the interviews analyzed in chapter three. The interviews were designed to
test the two hypotheses which were mentioned in chapter one. In
addition to suggest some recommendations to reduce this problem.

4.1 The Finding of the Study:

The final results of this research are that the perpetration violence causes:
a lot of embarrassed to the student in front of his peers , the decline of
the student's study clearly , aversion to the teacher because he is the
source of fear followed by hatred of the material he is studying , provide
the student with a weak image of himself , prompting him to compensate
for practicing control with those who are weaker than him Frustration,
suppression of the student and the production of personal introverted ,a
large gap between the student and the teacher, and aversion to the idea
of education and school. In addition, the results conclude the reasons of
practicing violence with students in the school as the following
 The misconception of some teachers that the bossy teacher is the
teacher who achieves the level of scientific and educational efficiency
together.
 The student's disregard for the subject and teacher or the teacher's
keenness on his subject, which makes him angry to who disrupts or
who riot in his share.
 The intensity of the classrooms.
 The teacher's poor economic situation and his general mood

4.2 Recommendations:

Based on the results of the study, the researcher recommends the

following:

 It is necessary to combine the efforts of both the home and the school
to address this phenomenon where parents must have a great deal of
children's behavior and help, and the school of administrators and
teachers must do all this in education. Because parents and teachers
play a significant role in a student's life.
 Educate parents, teachers, children and other relevant professionals on
minimum standards for human rights.
 Train teachers to deal with issues of personal, social and health
education in classroom
 Avoid excessive use of harsh punishment, reprimand and harsh
criticism, attempt to use reasonable and realistic punishments
commensurate with punishable conduct, and use educationally
methods

4.3 Conclusion:

As the researcher previously mentioned that there are some essential

reasons leaded to this problem be occurred in the school, so identifying
the main reasons and its results helped me to set some suggested
solutions as recommendations, trying to solve the problem by following
and applying them.
