News Section

1. The section shall consist of at least three (3) pages.


2. The content and scope of the news stories shall include a
balanced coverage of international, national, regional, community
and schoolbased news stories.
3. The content of the section may include straight or spot news,
advance/follow up report, news bits, news feature, news analysis,
and in-depth news/investigative news.
4. The decision of the Board of Judges shall be deemed final and
irrevocable.
News Section Guidelines (Expanded)

1. Section Length:

 The news section should comprise at least three (3) pages. This ensures there is
sufficient space to cover multiple stories and provide comprehensive reporting on various
topics.

2. Balanced Content and Scope:

 The news section must offer a balanced coverage of diverse topics to cater to a wide
audience. The stories should encompass various areas, such as:
o International News: Reporting on significant global events that impact a wide
range of people or have international relevance.
o National News: Coverage of key events, policies, or issues happening at the
country level.
o Regional News: Stories specific to a region, reflecting its unique challenges,
achievements, or events.
o Community News: Local news that resonates with smaller, specific communities
or regions.
o School-Based News: Focused on news about school activities, student
achievements, events, and policies affecting the school environment.

3. Types of News Stories:

 The news section can feature a variety of story formats to provide depth and variety in
reporting. These include:
o Straight or Spot News: Immediate and objective coverage of recent events.

o Advance/Follow-up Report: Stories that provide insight into upcoming events or


offer updates on previously reported news.
o News Bits: Short and concise news items that provide quick updates on ongoing
events or issues.
o News Feature: A deeper look into a particular news story, often focusing on the
human element or the larger significance behind a news event.
o News Analysis: An interpretative piece that explores the implications and context
behind current events, offering insight into why the event is important.
o In-depth News/Investigative News: Stories that involve thorough research and
investigation, often uncovering new facts or perspectives on complex issues.
4. Decision-Making:

 The Board of Judges will have the final say on the selection and evaluation of the news
content. Their decision is final and cannot be challenged. This clause emphasizes the
fairness and integrity of the judging process.
