The role of catur guru in forming a superior and cultured young generation of

hindus

Om Swastiastu, Om Awighnam Astu Nama Sidham. Good afternoon respectable jurys, ladies

and gentleman, and my fellow competition participants whom I love and i’m proud of.

Thank You for the opportunity that has been given to me at this time. First of all, let us

always worship and give thanks to the presence of Ida Sang Hyang Widhi because of his

blessings we can gather on this precious occasion, in Utsawa Dharma Gita North Sulawesi

Province 2024. Let me introduce myself, I am Ni Made Putu Sary from Pasraman widya

swastika saraswati, Bitung city. I stand at the front here today to discuss a very important

issue “The role of Catur Guru in Forming a Superior and Cultered Young Generation of

Hindus.”

Ladies and Gentleman,

In Hinduism we know the teachings of Catur Guru. Catur Guru consists of two words,

namely Catur and Guru. The word Catur means four and guru means heavy. So, Catur Guru

means four teachers who feel the burden of responsibility to us. According to hindu

religious concepts Catur Guru are:

1. Guru Rupaka, Guru Rupaka are parents who have given birth and educated them from the

womb to adulthood until old. Devotion to Parents, namely to the mother and father who

cause a person to be born into the world based on the karma wasana that they have. The

existence of parents must be respected and loved through devotional service, because from

the womb parents sacrifice with love to care and protect for them until they grow and

develop into mature and old humans. These services, are grouped into 5 sections known as

Panca Widha which consist of:

a. Ametwaken means meritorious giving birth

b. Matulung Urip means meritorious in helping souls from danger

c. Maweh Bhinojana means meritorious in giving food and drink

d. Anyangaskara means meritorious in carrying out ceremonies with the Manusa Yadnya

ceremony

e. Mangupadhyaya means has been instrumental in educating and teaching is the first and

foremost educator.

The love and services of parents are very great, such as multiplying the body, caring for and

fulfilling all needs and understanding, look after and love. Therefore it is mandatory to have

an attitude devotion to parents by making parents happy, serving them, listening to their

teachings and orders, staying away from their prohibitions, caring for them and pray for

parents. People or devotees who are always devoted to their parents will receive rewards in

the form of goodness, strength and ability in all fields, long life and prosperity in the form of

a good name and fame.

Ladies and Gentleman,

2. Guru Pengajian, Guru pengajian are teachers who provide us with formal education at

school based on the rules issued by the government. There are three main duties of

teachers in schools, including:

1) Educating, which is a process carried out by teachers towards students or students to

achieve educational goals by using a method to educate students from not knowing to

knowing, such as writing, reading and arithmetic. Apart from that, the most important thing
is to educate mentally and spiritually so that you can to create students who have noble

personalities, good manners and good character.

2) Teaching, namely a process of transferring knowledge carried out by teachers to students

based on the educational curriculum, annual program, syllabus, lesson units, with reference

to minimum completeness criteria to achieve National Education goals.

3) Training, meaning a process carried out by teachers for students in the form of exercises

both in the field of expertise and in the form of skills. There is a saying; being diligent is the

source of intelligence, tenacity is the basis of success, and expert is because of practice.

Someone will become an expert through frequent practice. The students will become an

expert because invited to practice. And students will become skilled because they are often

trained. Exercises This can be in the form of an evaluation of thinking ability, mental

dexterity, attitude and some are skills. Devotion to Guru Pengajian can be done by

respecting and obeying all their orders. Guru Pengajian play a very important role in efforts

to educate students both in spiritual quotient (SQ) , intelligence quotient (IQ) and emotional

quotient (EQ). These services and efforts make a person has an obligation to serve the

recitation teacher sincerely and lovingly. Apart from that, the teacher also plays a role in

expressing each character concept learning activities namely:

a. Instill the value of kindness in children

b. Using methods that give children a reason to want to do good

c. Developing an attitude of loving good deeds

d. Carrying out good deeds

3. Guru Wisesa, Guru Wisesa are teachers who have duties, authority and responsibility

towards the society, nation and state. What is called Guru Wisesa at the village level are

community leaders, head village and traditional leaders. Guru Wisesa at the sub-district

level are those mentioned by Tripika, namely the sub-district head, police station, and

Koramil. At the district level are the regent, police station, military district command. At the

provincial level, these are the governor, regional police and regional military command.

While at the central level, these are the president, TNI, POLRI, and others.

Ladies and Gentleman,

Devotion to Guru Wisesa is an obligation of citizens because of the existence of a leader,

king or government. Guru Wisesa who always provide protection, guidance, education, and

always invite community members to create a peaceful and peaceful atmosphere. Apart

from that, we always strive to develop development in all fields by referring to applicable

regulations and legislation. Efforts that can be made by a Young Generation to serve Guru

Wisesa are:

a. Comply with all statutory regulations

b. have a patriotic attitude in defending the country

c. Cultivate a sense of love for the homeland and nationalism within oneself

d. honoring the services of heroes

4. Guru Swadhyaya, Guru Swadhyaya namely Sang Hyang Widhi/God Almighty. God who

created the beauty of nature, the sea, rivers, mountains, moon, stars and planets. God is our

guide in life so that we can be safe in carrying out all activities. No matter how smart we are

as a people, if He doesn't like it, that's all What we do will not get the expected results.
Therefore, before carrying out an activity, we first offer a prayer before Him to receive His

grace so that the goal can be achieved. A devotee and Hindu must serve Guru Swadhyaya by

always remembering and glorifying God's holy name, by implementing His teachings and

avoiding all His prohibitions. The turmoil of adolescence exacerbates the phenomenon of

the erosion of sradha and bhakti in the younger generation of Hindus. This condition is

clearly visible, both from problems that only concern individuals and problems that impact

other people. Examples of problems that concern individuals are a lack of seriousness in

praying, a lack of interest in studying religion and reading holy books, and an indifferent

attitude towards the existence of God. Meanwhile, examples of problems that have an

impact on other people are the lack of mutual respect and appreciation, student brawls, and

the rise of crime and juvenile delinquency.

Ladies and Gentleman,

The realization of sradha and bhakti is closely related to the principle of Nawa Widha

Bhakti. Nawa Widha Bhakti means nine manifestations of devotion to connect oneself with

God for all His gifts. This teaching is contained in the Bhagavata Purana VII.52.23 which

states that there are nine devotional services that should be carried out, with the following

parts.

1. Sravanam, namely listening to good advice or teachings.

2. Vedanam, namely reading holy books.

3. Kirthanam, namely singing holy songs

4. Smaranam, namely always remembering God's name or meditating.

5. Padasevanam, namely devotional prostration before God.

6. Sukhyanam, namely seeing God as a friend.

7. Dahsyam, namely surrendering to oneself.

8. Arcanam, namely devotion through religious symbols.

9. Sevanam / atmanivedanam, namely providing service

From the discussion above, we certainly know that Catur Guru have an important role in

forming a superior and cultured young generation. Therefore, let us as the younger

generation together implement the teachings of Catur Guru in our daily lives. That's all the

Dharma Wacana that I can present on this occasion. I apologize profusely if there are any

errors in words or inappropriate delivery. Thank you

Om Santih, Santih, Santih Om.
