ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We take this opportunity with much pleasure to thank all the people who have helped us
through the course of our journey towards producing this project.
We sincerely thank our project guide Ms. Moumita Ghosh, for her guidance, help, and
motivation. Apart from the subject of our research, we learned a lot from her, which we are
sure will be useful in different stages of our lives.
We are especially grateful to our colleagues for their assistance, criticisms, and useful
insights. We are thankful to all the other MCA students of DIT UNIVERSITY with whom we
share tons of fun memories.
Finally, this project would not have been possible without the confidence, endurance, and
support of our families. Our families have always been a source of inspiration and
encouragement. We wish to thank our parents, whose love, teachings, and support have
brought us this far.
TABLE OF CONTENT
This project presents the design and implementation of a Campus Management System
network using Cisco Packet Tracer. The network includes routers, switches, Wi-Fi networks,
and other critical components to facilitate communication across different departments.
VLANs are utilized to segregate traffic, with dynamic IP allocation through DHCP. The
routers connect all units with serial DCE cables and are configured with OSPF to advertise
routes. Security is implemented by configuring SSH for secure remote access and enforcing
port security for sensitive departments like Administration. The project demonstrates how
networking technologies can be effectively deployed to meet educational institution
requirements.
Introduction
This project focuses on designing and implementing such a network architecture using
Cisco Packet Tracer, demonstrating
how advanced networking concepts address real-world educational needs.
Applications
The network design and configurations implemented in this project are applicable in
various real-world scenarios,
including but not limited to:
1. Educational Institutions
- Facilitates smooth communication between administration, academics, and support
departments.
- Supports campus-wide connectivity with VLANs to segregate traffic for staff, students,
and visitors.
2. Corporate Offices
- Efficient communication between teams across different floors or branches.
- VLAN segregation for secure and efficient inter-department communication.
3. Healthcare Facilities
- Dedicated VLANs for administrative, diagnostic, and patient care services.
- Ensures secure and fast communication for critical healthcare applications.
4. Government Buildings
- Reliable and secure communication infrastructure for multi-department facilities.
- VLAN-based architecture for isolated yet interconnected operations.
Proposed Work
The network is designed with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and security. The proposed
configuration includes:
1. **Network Design**
- Routers connect all departments with serial DCE cables for inter-department
communication.
- Each department is equipped with a switch connecting desktops and printers.
- Wi-Fi access points on campus provide connectivity for mobile devices.
2. **VLAN Configuration**
- Departments are assigned unique VLANs with specified IP subnets for logical
segmentation and improved traffic management.
- VLAN IDs include:
- Administration: VLAN 10 (192.168.1.0/24)
- Academics: VLAN 20 (192.168.2.0/24)
- IT: VLAN 30 (192.168.3.0/24)
The network topology includes a hierarchical structure connecting all departments. Key
features include:
1. IoT Integration
- Adding smart devices such as sensors for attendance tracking and energy efficiency.
2. Advanced Security
- Incorporating intrusion detection systems (IDS) and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
3. Scalability
- Seamless addition of new departments and devices without significant reconfiguration.
Conclusion
The Campus Management System network design demonstrates how modern networking
technologies can create a
robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure. The integration of VLANs, OSPF, and DHCP
ensures operational efficiency
while enabling secure communication across departments. This project serves as a
foundation for further advancements
and scalability to adapt to future requirements.
