As a Vietnamese, my cultural background has shaped my values, behavior, and

perspectives. I was taught a lot about the importance of family and community since I
was born. My culture encourages humility, respect, and unity. Therefore, these values
appear in every aspect of my life.

Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year is an outstanding experience for me. Once the
family has gathered around, we will honor our ancestors and celebrate the new year. The
rituals such as preparing a big meal for the whole family and giving lucky money have
always made me feel deeply connected to my culture. These traditions remind me of the
collective identity I share with my family and the Vietnamese community.

My research into cultural traditions and representation in media helped me understand

how culture both shapes and is shaped by identity. I found that cultural celebrations like
Tet and the rituals surrounding them are essential for reinforcing identity. Similarly, I
discovered that media representation plays a critical role in shaping how individuals from
marginalized groups view themselves and are viewed by others.

There are differing viewpoints on culture and identity. Some view cultural diversity as
an advantage, creating opportunities for individuals to learn from and appreciate other
cultures. However, others see it as a challenge, as it can lead to cultural clash or the
erosion of traditional values. I have been struggling to choose between the values of my
Vietnamese background and the expectations of the wider society around me. This
tension has sometimes created confusion but has also allowed me to grow, as I learn to
blend the best of both worlds.

Globalization is a challenge and an opportunity for cultural identity. While the world is
getting closer to each other, it also imposes the risk of losing some of the unique cultural
traditions. Globalization presents an opportunity where cultural practices can be
presented and preserved. What is important is that people practice their cultural identities
through maintaining their native language, continuing with family traditions, staying in
contact with their community members.
This research has deepened my understanding of how culture and identity
intertwined. My Vietnamese heritage influences my values, actions, and views, while the
world that keeps on changing around me is both a challenge and enrichment.
Understanding culture and identity in today's diverse and global society creates empathy
and respect throughout the globe.
