Cultural identity is defined as one’s recognition and sense of belonging towards one’s

culture. That culture is based on core values including a system of belief, customs and
habits, which in turn are shaped by factors such as history, government policies or
education systems. Yet, it is a global trend that many countries are losing their cultural
identity and the world is becoming more homogenous.
One of the main reasons for this increasing homogeneity is globalisation and the shift in
values and attitudes following in its wake. As new styles in fashion and ways of living
penetrate global markets via the media and consumerism, the expectations and demands of
indigenous cultures are changed. Adapting to these changes may easily lead to a loss of
sense of belonging if a society overlooks the good of its own culture or even simply glorifies
other cultures. One’s cultural identity may gradually be disregarded when people fail to
appreciate their own cultural uniqueness.
Thus, what we have to do most, not only in Vietnam but also all around the globe is to find
ways to maintain the value of national cultures. Firstly, we should preserve our native
language. Language is always a vital part of culture and it also help us develop intellectual
abilities and shape cultural identity. In fact, These days, learning new languages or going
abroad has become easier, it brings many benefits for our social but there are still a large
number of people who have a “foreign-favored” mindset, forgetting their own mother-
tounge. Secondly, more festivals, activities on preserving national cultural heritage should be
held more nationwide as we can promote and enhance our own natural beauty to local
citizens but also to people all around the world. As a result, citizens can get a deeper

organizing to encourage enthusiasm and desire to learn. Last but not least, we, the future
generations should bear in mind the importance of maintaining and preserving cultural
identity as It helps to define an ethnic group or community that shares unique and distinctive
features. Cultural identity is also important as it connects people, reminds them of their
shared history and strengthens the solidarity between them. The power of cultural identity
can encourage and motivate people to unite against a common danger. Rejecting cultures
means rejecting our identity.
