INDEPENDENT EXAMINATIONS BOARD (IEB) PRESS RELEASE

MAY/JUNE 2024 ISC RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT

12 July 2024

The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) is pleased to announce the release of the
May/June 2024 International Secondary Certificate (ISC) results written by candidates in
eSwatini, Namibia, and Mozambique. The ISC, developed by the IEB and the first international
school-leaving qualification from Africa is recognised internationally as a top-quality
demanding curriculum. It has been benchmarked by reputable national and international
bodies and found to be equivalent to the National Senior Certificate (NSC) offered in South
Africa as well as international school leaving qualifications. Learners who pass the ISC with
Merit or the ISC Advanced can be admitted for studies at South African and international
universities.

A total of 91 learners from eSwatini, Namibia, and Mozambique wrote their 2024 May/June
ISC examinations from 8 to 28 May 2024. There was a pass rate of over 92% for the 157
subject entries. Learners wrote the 2024 May/June examinations at six different venues across
three countries (1 in eSwatini, 1 in Mozambique, and 4 in Namibia).

Ms. Confidence Dikgole, Chief Executive Officer of the IEB, confirmed that the exams were
conducted smoothly without any irregularities, thus ensuring the integrity thereof is
maintained. Prof Sarah Howie, Director of the SU-UIC, shared this sentiment at the meeting
held to approve the release of results, stating “We (SU-UIC) regard this as a very successful
examination sitting”.

The 2024 May/June ISC examination is the second sitting since inception of the ISC
qualification. One hundred and sixteen learners have taken the mid -year examinations since
they were offered in May 2023 and May 2024.

A GLOBAL QUALIFICATION DEVELOPED IN AFRICA

The ISC is the first international schooling qualification developed within Africa. It is quality
assured by Stellenbosch University’s Unit for International Credentialing (SU-UIC). The
qualification has been evaluated by Universities South Africa (USAf), and it was found that
learners who achieve the ISC with Merit or the ISC Advanced may be admitted to South
African universities for diploma or degree studies.

UK Ecctis, a leading service provider in the recognition and evaluation of qualifications and
skills internationally, conducted a benchmark study of the ISC and has confirmed that the
qualification is comparable to the Australian, UK, and Kenyan school leaving qualifications.

“On behalf of the IEB Board of Directors and all of us at the IEB, I extend our congratulations
to the learners who sat the 2024 May/June examinations for their excellent achievements.
“We also express our gratitude to all the participating schools for their hard work and
commitment to the ISC,” added Ms Confidence Dikgole, Chief Executive Officer, of the IEB.
