and Gestures
Just imagine that you can get a superpower to know what the person wants to communicate

Arms Gestures

person or a group of person. Following are some of the gestures you must know:-

1. Crossing of arms- Crossing of arms are generally seen as a defensive posture.

Persons use it as protective guard against anticipated attack. People often cross their
arms when they feel anxious or uninterested. But cross arms may sometime shows
confidence. Cross arms has its own puzzle. Study found that adults who crossed their
arms and then asked for math questions are 30% more likely to keep trying to solve
them compared to those who put hands on table. So it indicates also that the person
is in problem solving mode.

2. Hands on Hips- Holding hands on hips or wrist shows that the person is in control
and ready to action. This is a sign of aggressiveness and sometimes dominance.

3. Open arms- Unlike crossing of arms, open arms towards any person generally
indicate openness and acceptance.

4. Partial arms barrier gesture- Partial arms barrier generally involves one arms
swings across the body like touching on face or swinging down and another hand of
the barrier-creating arm holds the other arm. This looks like the person trying to hug
himself. It indicates that the person has low self confidence and tighter the hand
grips the arm, more defensive the person is feeling.

5. Dead Arms: - Don’t go with the words, dead arms actually means your arms stick to
your sides. Naturally people do this when they don’t know where to place their
hands. But if you see a person in social gathering doing this, may mean that he/she

6. Arms behind head: - This postures you can observe doing by a confident and relax
person. Generally bosses and managers of your workplace do this often. But
remember to not use this posture in common before a high level officer as it may be
offensive and doesn’t seem professional. Hands above head have totally different

you fill. Slouching, on the other hand, is the result of collapsing your form; it appears to take
up less space and projects less power. Following are some of the Key Gestures and postures

attempting to convey confidence. On the other hand, a weak handshake can signal
nervousness and an overly strong handshake can signal intentional aggression.

 When someone shakes your hand and the grip is appropriately firm, it means they’re
attempting to convey a sense of poise and confidence. On the other hand, a weak
handshake can signal nervousness and an overly strong handshake can signal
