Review : Activity 1 : Am I Z-test or T-test?

Each student will be given a card with Z-test and T-test word. Each of
them will answer the simple recall questions by raising their cards and
will Identify the appropriate test statistics to be used based on the given
information.

After the activity tell the student for those who got the correct answer
tap your shoulder and say to yourself,”YOU DID GREAT” and for those
who got the wrong answer tap your shoulder and say, “DO MUCH
BETTER NEXT TIME”.

Explain to the students the connection of the review of the lesson today.
Tell the students that first we need learn how to identify the appropriate
test statistics to be used before we proceed to the computation of test
statistics.

consequences further.
lesson
Present a situation where we supply the data being asked and
determine the computed value of the appropriate test statistics.

The government pronounced IN 2022 that country will experience El

Niño phenomenon. According to Pag-asa the average monthly rainfall
in Metro Manila is 79.5 inches. The agency introduced cloud seeding to
increase the rainfall and minimize the effect of El Niño and the agency
believed that the cloud seeding is effective. A sample of 14 cities an
municipalities from a normally distributed distribution revealed an
average monthly rainfall of 81.2 inches with standard deviation of 5
inches. Test the claim at a 10% level of significance

Explain to the student’s that in order to answer the given problem, first
we need to know the concept on how to determine the computed value
of the appropriate test statistics and this will be the focus of of today
discussion. The teacher will present the lessons objectives to the
learners.
C. Presenting The teacher will present the two specific tests statistics used for
examples/instance hypothesis testing concerning means: z-test and t-test.
s of the lesson

The teacher will present example. The students is given worksheet to

answer the example problem while the teacher guide the students the
step by step process in solving the problem. Do it by Pair.

Example 1: According to a study conducted by the Grade 12 students,

₱150 is the average monthly expense for cell phone loads of senior high
school 11 students in Tagum City. A Statistics student claims that this
amount has increased since January of this year. Do you think his claim
is acceptable if a random sample of 50 students has an average
monthly expense of ₱100 for cell phone loads? Using 5% level of
significance, assume that a population standard deviation is ₱15.

Example 2: Blood glucose levels for obese teenagers have a mean of

585mg/dL. A researcher claims that a diet high in raw cornstarch will
have a positive or negative effect on blood glucose levels. A sample of
100 patients who have tried the raw cornstarch diet has a mean glucose
level of 600 mg/dL with a sample standard deviation of 60. Test the
hypothesis at α = 0.10 that the raw cornstarch had an effect.

Example 3: The average IQ of Senior High School students is 55 with a

sample standard deviation of 2. A researcher believes that the average
IQ of Senior High School students is greater. A random sample of 20
students was tested and got an average of 55.5. Is there enough
evidence to suggest that the average IQ is lower? Test the hypothesis
at 0.05 level of significance.

marking pen and 1/4 manila paper to accomplish the given task.

1. The mean number of hours of student to finish answering the

Statistics Module was reported to be 5 hours. A student claims that he
can answer a module in more than 5 hours. Is his claim acceptable if a
random sample of 35 students has a mean number of hours to finish
answering the Statistics module is 6 hours with a standard deviation of 3
hours? Test the hypothesis at 5% level of significance.

Z = 1.972
2. The average local cell phone call length was reported to be 2.27
minutes. A random sample of 20 phone calls showed an average of
2.98 minutes in length with a standard deviation of 0.98 minute. At α=
0.05 can it be concluded that the average differs from the population
average?

T = 3.227
3. A study shows that the average milk tea consumption of SHS
students is 12 cups in a month. A school claims that their students drink
less than 12 cups. They selected 32 students and found a mean of 10.5
cups with a standard deviation of 5 cups. Use 0.01 level of significance
to test their claim

Z = -1.698
4.

T = 2.2921

5. The Mansaka are sensitiver to the laws of nature when farming, and
they follow the ecological calendar in stages of planting. They observe
the moon, stars, trees, seas, and other signs in nature to guide them to
a good harvest. The average harvest per hectare of paddy rice is the
philippines is today is 100 bags per ha. Due to technological
advancement the researcher claim that following the mansaka
traditional way farming will decrease the average harvest per hectare.
The researcher selected 35 mansaka farmer and found a average of 60
bags per ha. with a standard deviation of 5 bags. Use 0.01 level of
sifnificance to test the claim.

Each group will choose a representative to present the answer to the

class.

Ask the students to affirm their cooperation in class by reading the slide
presented.

G. Finding practical
applications of
concepts and
skills in daily living
Allow the students to present their mind map. You may use the
questions below to help synthesize students’ answers.
1. What are the things that we need to consider when computing
for test statistic value?
2. What formula can we use in order to compute for the test-
statistic value of population mean when the population variance
is assumed to be known and unknown?
Use a mind map that enumerates the conditions on how to compute the

learning
Direction: Supply the data being asked and determine the computed
value of the appropriate test statistics.
The government pronounced that country will experience El Niño
phenomenon in year 2022 .According to Pag-asa the average monthly
rainfall in Metro Manila 2022 is 6.625 inches. The agency introduced
cloud seeding to increase the rainfall and minimize the effect of El Niño
and the agency believed that the cloud seeding is effective. A sample of
14 cities an municipalities from a normally distributed distribution
revealed an average monthly rainfall of 8.9 inches with standard
deviation of 2 inches. Test the claim at a 10% level of significance

The teacher will give the student an assignment for them to practice
their skills at home. (20 pts)

Assuming normality, 35 students were randomly selected to test their

typing skills. They have a mean of 38 words per minutes. Let α = 0.05,
test if this is significantly difference from the average typing speed of 40
