Introduction
Electronic Science has applications in almost all fields such as defense, entertainment, communication,
automobiles, medical, agriculture, industrial automation, home appliances etc. The curriculum for the B.Sc.
Electronic Science is systematically planned to create a foundation for the students to build up a successful
career in Electronics. Theoretical knowledge and practical training will help the students to handle real
world problems in all fields.

Objectives
 To provide in-depth knowledge of scientific and technological aspects of Electronics.
 To prepare the students to apply the acquired knowledge towards planning, designing and building
electronic applications.
 Train students to be an entrepreneur or part of the industry, through experiments, projects, hands on
trainings, industrial visits and market surveys.
 Enrich knowledge base of students for pursuing higher studies and taking up research and development
in Electronics.

Objective –
1. To be aware of Electronic Instruments.
2. To understand the use of various instruments for components testing.
3. Building and testing various circuits.

1) Power supply - AC DC measurement using DMM, Voltmeter, Ammeter, Ohm's law
Voltage and Current measurement for Low & High resistance
2) Resistor – color code, measurement, Rheostat, pot, trimmer, resistance box, Thermistor,
LDR, strain gauge.
3) KVL & KCL, power calculation, use of breadboard
4) Capacitor – different types, measurement, charging & discharging, Inductor,
Transformer
5) Diode - forward / reverse bias, LED, zener diode, 7 segment display-testing.
6) Transistor – types, identification, testing, simple circuit-transistor as a switch.
7) Switches- different types of switches and their testing, Thumbwheel switch.
8) Relay, solenoid, dc motor - testing, speed and direction control.
Displays – LED/LCD, alphanumeric display
9) Float sensor controlled water pump, automatic light control using LDR, transistor as a
switch based circuit on breadboard.
10) Signal generator and CRO, frequency setting, measurement of amplitude, period, duty
cycle, frequency.
11) Essential Lab skills - soldering of components on tag board & testing of different
circuits.
12) Soldering of circuit on readymade PCB & testing.

1 Basic Computer Concepts
Importance of computer in today’s world, computer fundamentals, types of
computers and feature comparison, introduction to basic components of typical pc,
input and output devices and their working, concept of operating system and its
common functions, application software and its uses, manage files and folders,
basic file operations, internet and its requirements.
2 Introduction to Hardware
Identify pc various components of pc, motherboard and its components, cpu and its
types,
Identify various cables and connectors, identify storage devices, printers and
scanners, identify various ports and their uses, overview of laptop hardware.
Desktop, laptop and tablet comparison
3 Introduction to MS Office
MS Word: Text basics, text formatting and saving file, working with objects,
merging documents, working with tables printing.
MS Excel: Introduction to excel, formatting workbook, using functions, sort and
filter data, creating charts, proofing and printing.
MS PowerPoint: Creating slides and applying themes, working with objects,
working with movies and sound, using smart art and tables, animation and slide
transition, using slide master, slide show, proofing and printing.

Course name – Digital Electronics Part 1 Code –
Objectives –
1) To learn number systems, codes and binary arithmetic
2) To understand basic logic gates & Boolean algebra
3) To design arithmetic and combinational circuits
Unit Title and Contents
Number system
Introduction to decimal, binary, hexadecimal, octal number systems and their
inter-conversions. 1’s complement, 2’s complement of binary numbers, Binary

addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Weighted and non – weighted
codes, BCD codes, comparison between binary and BCD, BCD arithmetic, Gray
code and their conversion to binary and vice versa, ASCII code.
Logic Gates and Boolean Algebra
Positive and negative logic, basic logic gates (OR, AND, NOT) and derived
2 gates (NAND, NOR, XOR) – symbols, truth tables and ICs(TTL and CMOS).
Boolean Algebra rules and laws, De Morgan’s theorems (statements and
proofs), NAND & NOR as universal logic gates, K-maps
Arithmetic and Combinational Circuits
Half adder, full adder, half subtractor, parallel adder, Comparator, parity
3 generator and checker, Multiplexer, Demultiplexer, encoder, decoder, code
converters – decimal to binary, binary to gray and vice versa, BCD to 7 segment
decoder, (Logic ICs of all above circuits).

Course name – Sensors and Actuators

Objective –

1. To understand various types of sensors along with their working principles and
specifications
2. To learn the principle, construction and working of various actuators.
3. To build application oriented circuits using sensors and actuators.

1. Basic concepts of sensor and Actuator

2. Temperature sensor – Thermistor, LM35/AD590, thermocouple, PT100, bimetallic strip.

3. Light sensor – LDR, photodiode, Phototransistor, Optocoupler testing

4. IR sensor – optical avoidance, IR pair (Transmitter & Receiver ) PIR sensor

5. Testing of Magnetic sensor, Hall sensor, pressure sensor

6. Relay testing – electromagnetic and solid state relay, solenoid testing.

7. DC motor – testing, speed control using PWM, direction control (H bridge)

8. Stepper and servo motor testing.

9. Understanding working of Microphone and loudspeaker

10. Sensor modules – Ultrasonic, Proximity, Gas/smoke detector, Moisture

11. Sensors in mobile phone

12. Switches – push button, SPST, SPDT, Thumbwheel, rotary encoder.
